Mark,

tonight Bob (the harp player) and I are coming down to the coffee house to do a few tunes in the rotation at MoPhat open mic night. Hope we see you there....you'll be able to hear the huge difference the Fishman Ellipse Blended system has made in the output of my D30 with the astoundingly beautiful arched maple back (and sides?...truthfully, I don't know the spec's for a Guild D30 and, unfortunately, I don't own a copy of Hans' Guild-bible, so I can't look it up... Is there, perhaps, a website that tells the physical details of each of the models manufactured in Rhode Island?). the addition of a transducer under the bridge and blending the output from both mic and x-ducer has really helped make my Guild attain an amplified sound that compares quite favorably to its natural voice when played unamplified.

any input on the above questions would be gratefully appreciated,

ce

howdy friends,

I just this morning discovered that a compadre of mine (a canadian amp builder) has posted some of my recordings on the sound click web site. if I was more computer literate I would post the actual links to the songs.... but as it often is in real life, things are not always as we wish. however, if any of you are desirous of listening to my acoustic slide guitar sound, go to the member: Fabamps and there are three songs:

Bunny's Blues (written for my cat/best friend)
Piedmont Blue (done in open "C" and in the piedmont style....think Lindsay Buckingham-but not as accomplished as that gentleman in that particular genre of slide...in fact, my first, feeble attempts to play in Open "C" tuning)
and the third piece posted is an acoustic jazz composition called Born for Trouble done on my D30....the slide tunes were performed on the D25.

it blew my mind to find this out this morning.....further mind blowing was that one of the slide tunes was rated #37 in the "general blues" category, both the other songs rated quite high as well....but the slide tunes did best.....anyway, if you're interested ya'll can go take a listen...the sound quality is much superior to the videos of the Robert Garrett Trio posted some time ago--I recorded these in my studio on a digital 4-track recorder using minidisc data format....be well

CE,

You're certainly welcome. The Westerly Guild site is the brainchild of one of our fellow members here, Tim. He's done a fantastic job.

Isn't it a treat to listen to Mark? The man is as good a guy as he is a player. Great bunch of songs Mark does.

West,
Mark certainly is a great guy.... real shy, too. at my trio's first trip to the MoPhat open mic, Mark upon seeing my maple backed D30 practically tackled me coming off the stage to "talk Guild!" That was how I found out about this discussion site dedicated to the guitars I have loved since acquiring my first in 1964 (T100 D.....my very first good guitar after five years of playing such lovelies as my first Airline flat top thru several squirrelly Japanese solidbody mistakes.....one had to really want to play guitar to perservere through those first instruments --I use the term advisedly).

Jeff,
I'm glad you liked it.... it always warms me when my efforts are rewarded with appreciation. thank you.

And my thanks to you, sir with the "83 Guilds and counting" for posting those links. (since I checked out your collection, you have become a hero of mine.... I told ms bunny just the other day that you were who I wanted to be when I grew up  )

Mark and everyone nearby,

I'm gonna go down to the MoPhat as a solo tonight. and as a sidenote, I opened my own soundclick artist site: CE Solberg and it has six of my songs on it (some of them co-authored by my partner in crime, Bob Lesher)....

Hope nothing untoward occurred, ce. Missed you there last night. Jane showed up with her FS4612CE and wowed them all with it! I showed off the unscathed G-312, too (see "My baby took a header") and a good time was had by all!

Did you take the double guitar stand Mark? Glad she's intact.

I wonder if I'm ever going to get a chance to play out on tuesday nights? that is also the time when Bob and I rehearse (we're back to trio, again, we hired a percussionist last night and Alex makes a real difference. he uses a snare, hi-hat, 14" bass and a 16" cymbal for some very tasty time-keeping.....which helps me tremendously; when I sing my guitar tempo tends to wander a bit but having the tempo reinforced seems to really help me--I can't look at Bob's foot because he taps so far off time that it truly screws me up even when I'm not singing! I was so stoked after the audition last night....). By the time we finished a 2 1/2 hour audition it was 8:30 pm and I was just too tired to play another three songs out in Yorba Linda.... one of these days I'll get back there and maybe even debut our newest member prior to our next gig in mid July.
on another front, a quite large band (with between two to four horns on any given night) has asked me to be their singer-keyboard player (actually, 2nd vocalist). unfortunately, I don't have a portable keyboard and I refuse to attempt humping my Baldwin upright spinnet around in my little Ford Taurus (even if it is a four-door).

anyone interested, here's a video of my wednesday night ensemble:

http://www.youtube.com//watch?V=-hZlm1Nb6L4&feature

I'm the guitarist in the brown suit and black t-shirt...the video is terrible because of the poor stage lighting but the sound is okay. that night we had two horns (sax by Sascha and trombone by Tommy "Bone"). it is the old blues "You Don't Love Me"

enjoy

btw....none of my Guilds are for sale! Ever. Jerry, there's no money in gas stations, my huge guitar habit requires that I do banks.
