It has been a long time since I did anything this stupid. I was sanding down a sound hole feedback suppressor and when test fitting it I pressed to hard and………YUP…..CRACK………

I found a local musician, guitar player, who does repair work and had a number of images posted of his work, all very nice. I got hold of him and went to his house. What a great guy with a nice small shop in the front of his house. We talked for a long time and he said he could fix it when he got back from Nashville next week. His band was recording their new album there and they had some gigs lined up there.

True to his word he fixed it as soon as he got back and charged me the princely sum of $80. I gave him a C note.

It is not flawless but neither is the guitar so I’m very thrilled. He used Hide glue and made a special jig so he could clamp it with even pressure.

That’s a good example of just WHY we have soundhole rosettes. The soundhole is a natural weak spot in the top and aside from bracing underneath, the rosette material helps limit cracks, whether natural or man-made, from traveling. The damage was stopped at the outer ring rather than being a much bigger problem.

Glad you were able to get it taken care of without too much of a headache.

That looks like a nice repair. He turned a guitarist's nightmare (I know I wouldn't have slept that night) into an anecdote with a good ending.

A C-note well spent, I would say.

Excellent result! The repair is barely noticeable!

Good to know folks like that. There are not many in these parts.
Richard,
We are very fortunate here in Toronto, because every time I do something really moronic and damage a guitar, we've got a ton of really fine local Luthiers to fix it, without so much as a "tut, tut" or a rolling of their eyes.
Lucky me.
