This week can't go fast enough. I've got fourth row center seats for this Thursday's Pat Metheny Unity Band show at Proctor's Theater in Schenectady, NY.
A friend sent me the following preview based on another show.
"Pat starts the show acoustic on a custom built dual neck 49 string guitar called a Pikasso. Then the Unity Band come on and play the fist 3 songs off that album. Then pianist/vocalist Giulio Carmassi joins in for the full Unity Group, and by one account they play the entire Kin album front to back. Pat also has a small (about 30%) version of the Orchestrion. Next up are a bunch of duets between Pat and each other member of the group, including All The Things You Are with saxman Chris Potter (who adds a lot to the sound in general apparently), Retirn of the Dream with Giulio Carmassi and How Insensitive with bassist Ben Williams. Then some PMG songs to close the set. The first encore is Are You Going with Me and then he closes the show with an acoustic medley of some favorites -- This is Not America from the Falcon and The Snowman soundtrack, Minuano 6/8, Antonia, Phase Dance and Last Train Home were mentioned.
Other songs that may work their way in are Breakdealer from the Unity Band, So It May Secretly Begin from Still Life, and Better Days Ahead or Have You Heard from Letter From Home."
