Paul Rodgers lives in semi-retirement in an adjacent community. I saw him once in a supermarket and politely ignored him.

I was never a huge fan, but I did like Free when I was a kid. And Bad Company albums are indelibly stamped in high volume on my brain from time spent in 1970s' party houses.

He has a new album coming out in September, recorded with local BC musicians.

The old stuff:

Free rocks it. The bass player shows that selectively playing and not playing is musically effective.

Bad Company rocks it but with a bit less energy.

The single released from the new album - quite old school.

To save someone else the trouble, the bassist is Andy Fraser and the bass is a Gibson EB3. I missed the headstock and some angles make the double cutaway look asymmetric which would distinguish between an EBx and a Guild JSx. Upon further reflection I realized that if the 1970 date was correct it would have to be a very early JS and a Guild humbucker would make it very late in 1970. So if I had really thought about the date and the bass in the video I would have realized a JS was extremely unlikely :)

Longer clip of the same 1970 show.

Some better views of the EB3 head stock.

Another live thing from 1970 but at the Isle of Wight Festival.

The Gibson head stock is clearly visible on the bass at times.

And Rodgers stood a little closer to the razor before this show.

And The Firm with Jimmy Page!

He's not my favorite artist, but he absolutely has one of the most distinctive and recognizable voices in rock.

I had no idea the guitar parts were Page. How interesting. I still can't believe the singer is same singer as in the Free song, they don't sound the same. Definitely, his voice is so distinctive. The Bad Co songs are great.

"Midnight Moonlight" by The Firm, originally written for Led Zeppelin.
