That was a sweet Les Paul Custom SG. I agree it was too bad for the nephew. I think he should have went with an auction. It would have sold for way more than the 90k Rick paid him.
And the fact that Les almost told Gibson to stick it. Who knew how close they came to parting ways.
That was some cool history.

Dang, missed that "Pawn Stars", I'll have to watch for the repeat. Rick's no dummy, but ya gotta remember he's also now bearing the risk of a sudden tank in the market and maybe being forced to liquidate it at a loss himself. I'm pretty sure they're gonna want their 90 grand back in the bank with
some kind of profit
really quick, like less than 60 days.
I like him, he's not afraid to make it crystal clear that 99% of the time he's only in it for the money. I'm sure the seller was fully aware of the trade-off between instant cash and waiting for an uncertain final figure at auction. There's even a show all about
that now, guys offered a choice of instant cash or wait 'til auction!

And to think, Les hated the redesigned (SG) shape of his signature model.
On Cajun Pawn Stars a week or so ago, a guy brought in what appeared to be one of the first recordings by Jerry Lee Lewis. They brought in some expert to verified that it was real, was Jerry Lee Lewis and that the record was worth about $15,000. The CPS guy offered the seller $30,000 for it, and the guy turned him down, saying he wouldn't accept anything less than "six figures" for it.
I saw that one. Shop owner
really stepped up because he
really wanted it, and the seller was a perfect example of a jerk thinking what he had was worth W-A-A-Y more than it really was and expecting a wholesale buyer to pay retail for it besides.
Wonder what he'll do after a couple more appraisals?
