My new addition to the fold arrived yesterday via insured USPS parcel post. Unfortunately, it couldn't go express because of the oversized box, but after a week and a half here it is.

Overnight, I let the case acclimate inside the box and just took it out today. I haven't actually *opened* it yet because I think it needs another day to finish acclimating. No reason to expect any damage in there, but all those days on the road.... anyway, please keep your fingers crossed for me!

Please note the arched case back. This should tell you something very special is inside. ;) OK, I know the guitar's new name already gave it away, but here's a taste for Saturday morning. A full picture spread will hopefully come tomorrow once the case is open and I can do some cleanup (can't wait)!

OK, I'm sorry for the tease (not really :)), but this is the best I can give you on this exciting (for me) Saturday morning.

That will be a very enjoyable way to spend the day... cleaning, tweaking and playing a new (used) guitar!
Have fun Chaz! :D

Exciting Chaz, I hope the Captain drained all of the water out of it before he shipped it.
If it was an Ovation, he wouldn't have to worry

The case has lived a lot

The case alone did it for me. The stories it could tell, or maybe keep to itself (encased)! Of course, the same might be said for all the cases in the background, too!?

Joe
Capquest himself does have some great stories! Not the least of which was the el kabong that his spurned ex-girlfriend did to this poor guitar that brought it to Augie LoPrinzi for a year of repair. I'm sure the case and the guitar have some great musical stories of their own to tell me. I can't wait. I'm thinking of popping the latches soon. Patience is a virtue... :)

Wait - didn't you put the answer to your new guitar in your signature? Is that the 1967 F50-R? But did those have an arched back? I thought only the F50 had the maple arched back. I'm confused. Was born that way.

JG, this guitar was on the slow boat from FL, and I really didn't know what temperatures it was exposed to during shipment, so I wanted to avoid any checking by slowly getting it open. I've seen too many people suffer from impatience. Anyway, all is well!!!

I popped the latches around 3pm today and cleaned it up nicely! OK, here's some of the photos. I took a ton:

Hi Barbara!

Yes, I gave it all away. I didn't want you guys guessing all day. :)

So... There were a handful of F-50Rs made with arched rosewood in Hoboken. This is one of them.

Barabara,
The arched back of Chazmo's "new" F-50R was discussed here...

Chaz... she made need a little work, but she'll be sweet when she's cleaned up a little! Congrats!

Hi West,

This guitar came to me from member capquest, who is the original owner. His arthritis has made it difficult for him to play it, and I promised him I'd give it a great home and cherish it. I'm thrilled to have it, and I've named it in Cap's honor.

Another LTG member sale(!), not auction/listing.

I spoke with Hans about this guitar earlier, and he thinks it's likely to be a Brazilian laminate. I agree. His book actually mentions some experimentation like this by the Hoboken folks. The interior and exterior of the rosewood in this guitar are perfectly matched (grain, knots, etc.), which I find very impressive.

Anyway, thanks for the nice comment. I love it too, and I plan to set this up for another 43 years (although I probably won't be around long enough to see that through :) :) )
