Hi all....
Life has been nuts for me recently.....some tough going....
....but this morning nothing but big tone and smiles from this well worn and comfortable old 1960 T-50B.
I bought this on Ebay a few years ago....a one owner guitar.....it arrived from South Carolina stinking and stained from nicotine and sweat......no doubt a little essence of the player too. Extremely used but not abused except for some inevitable belt buckle wear!
A thoroughly played guitar that one can easily imagine did plenty of time in bars and roadhouses.....maybe it was a good worried life friend too.
I appreciate nice clean vintage, but guitars that display this kind of history are extra special and a joy to look at.
Of course this ones been a joy to play too........I had to clean layers of crud off this and get it set up to play, but the golden patina and player wear is still there to see.
In its day the slimbody T-50 was introduced as an affordable, entry level electric......competing with the likes of Gibson's ES-125T.
But nowadays, without even thinking about price tags and looking back, this thing plays and sounds as good as any of my more sought after Franz equipped Guilds....in fact its one of the best of my bunch. I can't explain it....a very strong and expressive Franz pickup helps of course, but even with worn frets it plays with beautiful balance and nice sustain from note to note from top to bottom.
If one thinks about it...a guitar like this wasn't the coolest or most fashionable guitar to be playing in the '60's, '70's and later.......but this was probably affordable first, then thoroughly appreciated.....it made lots of music.
I just can't get over the quality, performance and utility of old Guilds.....
