Hello people,

Talking to an elder gent the other day about beer and home brewing and he mentioned pumpkin booze.

Apparently you take one of the big blue pumpkins and hollow it out, fill it full with brown sugar and seal it up until it starts to wither. Then you drain the inside fluid and bingo, there is your booze.

Has anyone ever heard of such a method?

Thanks.

Not I. I'm quite certain, though, that that would not be something I'd enjoy.

I used to really enjoy pumpkin season, but so much sugar (which I don't eat these days) is present in those things that I haven't had pumpkin in over a decade.

(yeah, diabetes sucks).

As I understand "booze" is distilled alcohol - what you might get of that pumpkin would most likely be somewhere between 5-10% alcohol w plenty of side products - distillers grain - or whatever. Them headache products . . . 😂

Yeah, but it's a good way to get a headache, Timo. :D

I used to provide consulting services to jails and prison systems.

You would be absolutely amazed by the variety of intoxicating beverages that idle time and ingenuity can produce, from all manner of kitchen scraps.

I could then distill the product perhaps?

Anyway pumpkins are inexpensive so I will probably try it.

Yup - after fermenting comes distilling - I've done that in my past, when money was not easily available - and booze was expensive.

You have to do it the right way - then you get fine etanol - the wrong way there'll be metanol in it - and that's a definite no-no 💩

Most likely there's enough information about the subject - so I stop here. 🍺
