Anyone care to provide a short cut that I can use to find new tuning pegs for my F-112? It currently has the old open tuners/ plates and I might like to stay as close as possible to that design. :?:

I'll wait here, thanks,
Joe :D

Hi Joe!

You will find a bunch of info with appropriate links on replacement tuners on my old F-212 thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15621&start=15

I am actually thinking like you, when and if I replace mine I will preferably keep the open look.

Good luck keep us informed!

Hi Joe; if you're still there, I went through this a few years ago and didn't find anything in production that matched. I did find/buy an authentic set of used Guild 6 on-a-plate tuners eBay from the guy down in the Keys who parts out guitars ... a ghoulish business but he's a straight stick.

Hi Pascal; I think Jose is looking for a set of these (from the other thread, '68 F-212)

Hi Hose A: you might scope Hans' site or send him a PM; he has come up with lots of fine parts.

Hi Joe..I used Ping tuners, less than $30. They are an exact fit except I uses the original screws, as the ones with the ping. were silghtly narrower. All the holes lines up, no drilling. The knobs are more square and slightly larger, Keeps in tune now, smooth action. I'm happy with them..Steffan
Here is a rather bad picture with the cell phone.

Yeah, they are Joe, I've had the F112 tuned down to a low version of C tuning, with medium strings, and everything works fine. No complaints about the tuners or the workmanship, mind you I did the swap myself. Use the old original screws because the nw ones don't tighten down. Good price, they are made by the same company that makes Ping golf clubs, which I hear are pretty good too. Steffan
You're gonna love that guitar even more when it gets easy to tune, and stayes in tune....Musical joy. :D

I have a set of Pings on another guitar and I like 'em.
As far as the F-112 goes, I have to admit that I'm playing it as a 6-string lately....and loving the sound!

We do what we do...

kildeer-

I have a 74 f-112 with the same type of open back tuners. Last night durning a string change I took the tuners apart, unscrewed all the gears and cleaned the whole assembly lightly with a bit of WD40 on a small clean rag. A lot of dirt came out. I also rebent very gently some of the tabs on the metal plate that hold the tuning key. This helps it hold the key more firmly. I only did this on 2 tuners that were slipping.

It took about an hour or so, seems to work well- it really needed the cleaning- there was a lot of dirt there. I was not ready to spent the money and effort finding tuners and drilling the guitar. This may be the easier softer way..............
If this proves to make a difference I will do it on my classical next.

What about the new Guild tuners. Are they making open backs for 12 strings now days?
Hi TMG; In the specifications for the new F512, the Guild webpage says: "Custom Gotoh® Gold-Plated Open-Back 12-String Tuners". I haven't seen any new 12-strings and the webpage doesn't have pics of the back of the headstock. All(?) the other Traditional models have open-back tuners but of course the old ones were open-back too ... except they are 6 on-a-plate and the Guild webpage doesn't say whether the new ones are 6 on-a-plate or not. Never say never but unless somebody is making custom 6 on-a-plate tuners privately for Guild, I don't think there's anything out there.

You know Joe if you routed out some wood in the headstock, and added a little weight to the bottom of the guitar it might help you stop tilting in that direction.  Steffan
