Country singer Toby Keith dead at 62

Toby Keith had been diagnosed with stomach cancer

Country singer Toby Keith died Monday at the age of 62, his family wrote in a statement posted to his website and social media accounts early Tuesday.

"Toby Keith passed away peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family," the statement read.

"He fought his fight with grace and courage," it continued. "Please respect the privacy of his family at this time."

Been several HOAX about country singers dying - I listed one last year and had to delete it as I had been snookered

Did see FOX and NBC announced it 5 hours ago. Hope they were snookered too

Lots of country guitarists chose Takamine for their acoustics. It's kind of a country thing. Which is somewhat ironic, as their "brand" is all about made in america lol.

That being said, I mean no disrespect to this post being about toby keith passing. I did hear he had cancer, and he was a larger than life presence on the country music scene, for sure.

On the road, any major name brand guitar, especially a vintage one, is at risk of theft if left unattended for more than a few minutes. And they are not easily replaceable.

Gigging and touring also open opportunities for accidental damage.

I have seen a lot of acts using Takamine guitars on stage, including The Who. Takamine has good build quality, good quality control, good consistency between instruments, decent electrics, and decent sound. The higher end models are not inexpensive but they are not eye-wateringly costly either. And importantly, they are quickly replaceable.

I have also seen guitars by Yamaha and Ibanez (and to a lesser extent Godin) in the hands of big name acts that could afford big name vintage guitars.

When I went to see Stephanie Jones at International Guitar Night, she was disappointingly not using one of her multi-thousands-of-dollars luthier-built classical guitars but rather a upper mid-range Yamaha electro-acoustic.

I have a friend who switched entirely to Tokai instruments for gigging, leaving his Fenders and Gibsons locked up at home after having lost some of them from bandstands and hotel rooms.

Hey Canard. Do you know what model is a good all around workhorse Tak? I hear their electronics are also great.

Thanks.

I don't own any, and I am not up on what the models are.

I have liked almost every one I have tried in stores. And I have loved some of the ones that belong to friends but not enough so that they could ever take the place of my F-30 for pure acoustic playing.

RIP Toby.

Jerry Garcia played a Takamine.
Loads of people play Tak’s live. They may record w/ Martins, but plugged in, Tak took what Ovation started, and were the first to make a plug and play acoustic that sounded on big stages like a quality acoustic being played in your living room. I LOVE mine. When folks talk about Guilds being the more bang for your buck guitars when comparing Martins/Taylor’s/Gibsons, I’d go as far as to say Takamine surpasses even Guild in that field!

Sorry, to continue the Takamine veer... Certainly the death of any accomplished musician, or any musician for that matter, is cause to mourn and reminisce. I just wanted to add that... I had and enjoyed a Takamine jumbo GJ72CE 12-string, which was a fine, low-cost guitar. It was a nice burst, abalone rosette -- What's not to like? 😀 But like most guitars in that price range, the sound from the bass strings was weak compared to the mids and highs. So eventually, the Tak motivated me to get a jumbo Guild 12-string! (And that Guild inspired me to get another. And another. ☺️ )
