Long story short: we are having some minor renovations and painting done in our home, and now that we have disposed of our children on kijiji, I will be storing and playing my guitars in a converted bedroom.
I have six guitars (five stored in hard cases, and one in a gig bag, when not being played), and I'd like to find a storage rack for them.
The ones I've seen on-line seem to be for multiple guitars, but the slots are too narrow to hold guitars in cases.
If what I want doesn't exist, I'll just make one from PVC pipe and wood.
But if anyone here knows of a commercially-available rack that would fit my needs, I'd appreciate the information.
Please and thanks,

We have one that might have evolved to be this one https://www.amazon.com/Studio-Deluxe-Guitar-Case-Storage/dp/B073JRC5ZC

Price is a lot higher than I remember though.

There are other options available but six instruments might be pushing their limits

I bet you could custom build one with a few 2x4s or fancier 1x3-4 hardwood boards for not too much money.

HeyMikey,
My thoughts exactly.
Although I'm thinking of using 1" PVC pipe, either alone, or in combination with 1"x1" wood, which would weigh less, and look " lighter" as well.

Lots of designs on youtube and the interweb. The first thing that jumps to mind is will you be storing the guitars only on the rack or are you also storing the cases on it? Second do you want individual divisions or cutouts for each guitar or one big space? Third do you want furniture quality design elements or bare bones functional?

HeyMikey,
I never leave "naked" guitars out. They are all stored in their cases, (and one in its gig bag) until I take one out to play, and immediately before the audience starts throwing rotten fruit and vegetables, the guitar is returned to its case. As for dividers, I was thinking of short lengths of dowel, just to keep the cases from falling over when one case is removed, but depending on the design the dowels may be unnecessary. Notching the upper horizontal back-bar with shallow spaces each as wide as the cases are thick would likely be enough.
As for the aesthetics, I'm a function over form guy, so there will be no need to get the paperwork for Brazillian Rosewood, and Home Depot will be where I get the wood.

I’m with you in that I leave my guitars their cases. I like the dowel idea. If you go that route you might add some extra holes so you can position the dowels to fit different size cases vs spacing them all the same. That might allow you to fit the cases closer together.

As far as the audience throwing rotten fruits and veggies… chicken wire.

HeyMikey,
I tried chicken wire, but a determined audience just switches to Olives and Walnuts.
Some sort of a Patriot Missile System for crappy musicians immediately comes to mind.

Mrs. Fro's interest in aesthetics and my lack of competence with tools and drove us to a commercial solution (as noted above). It had dowels but it turns out they have neve been used for very long. The dowels have a fixed width but when you mix traditional acoustic cases and rectangular solid body cases there is a wide variety in widths and at least one case is wider than the space between two dowels. When we took out the dowels it freed up room for one more case. We do not obsess about the order of the cases and the rack is always full enough that a case falling to the side is not a concern. If we were concerned about that we would probably track down one dowel and just slide everything to one end and put the dowel at the other end. All this is to say you might not want or need to worry about dowels or notches.

Made this one from scrap lumber and put some "stickem' pads" on it. Holds 6 cased guitars.

There are also all kind of construction plans on the internet. One example in 4 pages PDF is attached.

I bought this rack from Amazon. The pegs are screw in so they could be removed to use cases instead of nekkid guitars ... it'll hold up to 9 guitars out of the case and folds up when not in use.

Wilmywood,
This rack would be perfect if it was longer.
But as it is configured, removing every other dowel only gives space for four guitars in their cases. I have six, so it isn't suitable.
But I appreciate the suggestion.

That is where I got the idea I am pretty sure. I was looking for one and saw one. And since I own a metal shop, I had plenty of bolts, screws, and washers. Have a friend who is a wood worker, lots of scrap wood pieces, so pretty easy project.

A friend who has now passed away, built this for me several years ago. To my knowledge he did not copy anyones, but built it to accomodate my biggest case "times X." I was actually thinking of cutting it back some recently...

I asked him to make stylized flames instead of an f-hole, somewhat like the NFPA logo, and he wanted to try inlay, so this is what he did.

RIP Bob, we miss you

Bill,
Sorry about the loss of your friend. May his memory be a blessing.
This rack is very close to what I envision, except perhaps mine will be a bit less ornate.
