More rainy, crappy weather today in the northeast. Might as well do a chore I’ve been putting off for too long and knock it off the list.

Is there anything more tedious and mind numbing than sheet music punch hole reinforcement?

Tedious might not be the right word but I'd rather punch holes in things I have already gotten on paper than organize the paper and figure out what needs to be printed.

Might be time for a laptop...

Tried one. Hated the coding needed to make it look and scroll right. I prefer the old school approach. Plus, I make a lot of hand written notes.

Anyway, I’m done with the hole reinforcements (900 total as some pages needed both sides). I guess the next rainy day activity will be some string changin’.

For organizing music for performance? The locals who perform have switched to tablets. Some do some kind of setlist organization between sets and others do a lot of "swiping" during their between song patter. They also seem to be using them more for lyrics than chords.

I think reducing each song to a PDF that only has one page is a factor for making it work for people who otherwise avoid computers.

The coolest argument for tablets though, is sharing. There is a professional orchestra that comes together for gigs and agility is a key factor in getting the gigs. There are no traditional music stands but everyone has a tablet. Turning pages is at the player's option - some use a foot switch but most use a gesture much like turning a paper page. Bet the devices are networked and the arranger makes changes in real time and pushes them out to all of the players. That has been huge when backing a soloist from out of town who want's to add their own touch or is having a bad day and needs to sing in a lower key.

And I saw some tablet to tablet interchange in a trio where the bassist only played with the others once before and there was a selection they had not planned on doing when they discussed the gig.

That said, for what I do I prefer a big enough music stand to hold two pages side by side, arrangements that fit on two pages, stand lights and lots of clothspins for outdoor gigs. At this point looking cool by not having music in front of me is no longer a goal.

LOL, birds of the same feather we are! Our typed songs also look exactly the same.

I have to admit I first copy the songs from Ultimate Guitar, and then edit them based on what I gleam from various Youtube performances and lessons.

I used to use the Onsong app on my Ipad until my Ipad died.

Great way to organize setlists and have all your chord charts and lyrics at the touch of a finger.

I too copy from Ultimate Guitar and then edit in a word processing program.

Never had much trouble reading the screen at outdoor gigs.

Eventually I will get a new Ipad but for now if needed I just do a google search on my smartphone. Played a gig a few weeks ago and I only needed lyrics to Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys and a couple of chord changes from Love Her Madly. Mostly I try to go off-book.
