I printed off an e-bay sale a few years ago, I'll have to see if I can get photos up here, it was Red Foley's custom Guild F-50, had his name inlaid in the neck, etc. They were asking a mere $100,000 for it...

Not to be a wet blanket here, but looking at this issue logically;

Wouldn't any instrument that Guild made only one of have the same degree of rareness?

So therefore, there can be no "Rareest" Guild! :D

That was my point earlier, Kurt. Of course, "how many one-offs were there? is a factual question, but as Hans pointed out that has no relevance on the subjective collectibility or actual difficulty in attaining something.

Agree; surpassed only by the models they didn't make ... for example; the Guild 3-stringed Ukujo ... a ukulele neck and banjo body ... they didn't make many of those.

My cousin has a guitar his grampa bought him new - a 1958 Les Paul Jr. Jr. (yes, that's two Jr.'s) It has the same body but a short scale neck, for kids I think. The Jr.s still looked like SG's at this point. Entry level Gibson electric, one pickup way down by the bridge, 2 knobs, transparent red paint job, gold Gibson decal on headstock. Got photos of it somewhere...

Anyway, it seems they only built about 4,000 Jr.s that year, and only 400 of them were Jr. Jr.;s like this one.
Question: does the rarity make this one more desireable/valuable, or is a full size neck Jr. more desireable?

Sorry, this has absolutely nothing to do with Guilds

Don't forget the Guild banjo... thnik there's a pic in Hans' book.
This Guild Banjo is 3rd one, put togther with my neck from banjo parts from the Westerly Factory (when it closed).
BTW if you ever see it, it was stolen from my store 3 years ago, and will show up some day as a "Rare" Guild Banjo.

1. Where there really only 18 JV-52's ever made?

1. No, it was 28 pieces. I believe we talked about that when one of the Forum members bought one not too long ago. It might have been a Private Message though.

That would be me! I'm curious - why did Guild stop after 28? Was it not selling well? Was it replaced by another model? Was it... a mistake?? :)

In comparison, how many DV52's (roughly) were made?

Hello jcwu,

The usual reason for a model to be taken out of the line was when they didn't get (enough) orders from dealers.

In comparison, how many DV52's (roughly) were made?

Somewhere in between 4500 and 5000 were done. It was quite a successful model from day one.

Sincerely,

I know that my 1971 D-55 may not be in the rarest of the rare -but it was not a production model at the time, nor was it in the catalog .Its body shape is slighly different from todays D-55 -it really is not the same guitar . It would be hard to find another guitar that sounds as good as that guitar ! its my benchmark that i use to judge good guitars .

i remember seeing a rare Guild on eBay a few years ago. It was a drednaught of some sorts, Chesterfield inlay, spruce top, mahogany sides, and rosewood back. Or maybe the other way around.
