Today, I pulled my ad on Reverb for my DV-62, which I have also pulled from Ebay and from LTG, because I finally came to my senses that the guitar is just what I need and like. Anyway, my ad on Reverb generated only scammers. I received three "offers" from scammers, all of which wanted me to contact them via email, and not through Reverb. Ugh.

Rich, I am seeing the same thing on Reverb. I just ignore them. In the past I had not received these emails.

Fixed the typo in the title.

Scammers scam because it works.

When CME owned Reverb, it seemed moderation was handled better.
Etsy doesn't seem to do a very good job, and the site has suffered a great deal.
Thereseem to be a lot of b*llsh*t sellers and buyers now.

Yeah for most of those guys it's just a job.
They make me wonder how much money is in it. Taking morals out of the equation, which I know most people would not do, and you’re left with a job that includes the risk of going to jail.

Yeah but there's no withholding, no rude bosses, set your own hours and vacations, and meet new and exciting people all the time.

It's kind of funny, when I financed a car recently, they checked me out harder than I've ever been checked before, apparently my profile was too good so it got scrutinized that much more closely.

Never owned a smart phone, never joined any social networking sites. Never set up any automatic payment plans. Never even had a PC at home until 2 years ago.

And never been scammed.

Man I'm runnin' about zero for three on the deadpan deliveries, lately.
You've got to remember to use the sarcasm font!

In all seriousness, not everyone trying to negotiate a deal outside of Reverb is a scammer. Many are just trying to get a better deal, and beat paying sales tax. I've experienced it as both a buyer and a seller.

Tax fraud is a scam too. Just a different perp and victim :)
So is out of state taxation without representation… but we’re not going to get political, right?! 😊

I will agree with Sandy that not all buyers who want to contact you are scammers. Some just want to have a conversation, ask a lot of questions, and get a sense of the seller is on the level that are difficult to do through messaging systems. I welcome the opportunity to talk directly to someone interested in what I have to sell. I do typically have them send me their phone number though.

I couldn't agree more Mike. When I buy or sell a guitar, I would much rather talk to the buyer/seller directly, because it does give you a much better sense of who you're dealing with. You get none of that sense through any kind of messaging. eBay doesn't allow you to send email addresses or phone numbers through their messaging system (although there are ways around it), but at least so far, Reverb doesn't. And when you're making a large purchase or sale, that one on one conversation is important.

Agreed on general principle, even though I actually haven't ever used one of the online sites (for an instrument).

Had a couple scammers while posting myself, on 2 separate items on the same day.
I ignored and sold the items legit. And few since. Got to be careful out there that is for sure.
