Too short a time with us, Fox had to be put to sleep yesterday. A rescue from a feral queen who had a habit of giving birth in our yard, he had five years with us, probably more than he might have survived. Developed heart, kidney and respiratory problems and would no longer eat. After several weeks of frequent vet visits, we made the decision. He was one of a kind.

Poem for Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

So sorry Fox had to leave so soon.

Tough times, I’m sad for your loss. He looks cool standing there with one pupil all open and the other still just a small little slit. Great pic

Very sorry to hear this Brad. I think all of us animal lovers have been there a few times, and it never seems to get any easier.

Thanks for all the condolences, greatly appreciated. Of all the cats we've had (currently 7,er 6), Fox was the quirkiest and while hard to forget will be very easy to keep in our hearts.

Sorry Brad. I too, love cats. Never used to be a cat person but with age sometimes comes wisdom. They are so cool and special. I can't imagine my life without my cats and dogs as my companions.

Good thoughts sent out to Fox and you and your family.

Today, we picked up his "paw print," an option offered by our vet. Made me think about other pets past, some are buried in our yard, including two bunnies. It may be anthropomorphism, but it seems to me that a couple of his siblings miss him. Animals do miss their companions, I can attest to this, When one of our bunnies died, our daughter said leave her in her lair so her sister can mourn. A few hours later, her surviving sister had ripped strips from the newspaper at the bottom of the cage and covered the body.
