Who leaves guitars out in the sun, black or any other color?
I did a 3 hour gig in the open sun this summer. My wood guitar was OK. I ended up in the ER.

You think I'd learned. I did another uncovered gig in a parking lot one August. Singer nearly passed out from the heat. Wood guitar was fine.

I don't do that many outdoor gigs, but I do some.

Maybe I'm being more cautious than I need to be, but having heard various horror stories over the years -- people opening their cases and finding their guitar had come unglued and folded up due to the heat -- I don't even leave my cased guitars in the sun.

The rule of thumb I've heard is that if the weather is uncomfortable for you, it's uncomfortable for your guitar.

Darn shame. I prefer a 1 11/16" nut, but never saw a cf guitar with that. I got a Rainsong Al Petteway Special Edition APSE used, even though it was 1 3/4". No stupid inlay signature anywhere.

Good enough acoustic sound. More mahogany than rosewood. Great amplified and outdoors.

I never cared for the black finish and the shark inlays. The APSE has a brownish satin finish and plain fret markers, short scale.

I love the beefy N2 neck because I'm a thumb center of the neck gripper. I've gotten loads of positive comments on the neck.

I would never have a barn door in wood, but the anthem stage pro is so sweet for this guy.

Thank you Mr. Petteway, RIP. I did not know your music, but I love the cf guitar you spec'd out

Darn shame about Rainsong.

Many people don't realize that the matrix (epoxy) used for carbon fiber degrades in ultraviolet rays. It is protected by clear coat, however, any dings or nicks in the clear coat makes the carbon fiber vulnerable to UV light. The carbon is then susceptible and can become brittle.

Too bad about Rainsong, though. They were a pretty innovative company, and I think they gave it a pretty good run. I do believe that players are drawn to the organic and traditional qualities of wood guitars, though, which may be the reason they never really caught on as expected. Maybe it's the same reason why so many prefer tube amps over solid state amps and digital modelers.

The German company Canna Guitars is making some interesting composite instruments with bodies made from a material called Hempstone. They seem to offer the best of both worlds. The tops are multi-ply laminates of thin spruce sandwiching a layer of Nomex, which is an aramid in the same family as Kevlar. It's essentially an over-expanded honeycomb composite of paper or fabric with a high tensile strength, often used to make super light and strong aerospace components for airplanes. It makes the tops of these guitars incredibly rigid and resonant.

Had no idea they been around as long as had . I always wanted to play one and I wonder why they would close over trying to find a potential buyer to take it over ? Kind of sad really .:(

My main guitar has been a Rainsong Shorty for around 10 years or so. Short scale 12-fret "OM". Amazing how well these stay in tune. More importantly, I can leave it out in the studio and not worry about the top cracking due to lack of humidity.
