The Clash are always good for some spirited debate, so here we go:

Rolling Stone Reader's Poll: The Best Clash songs

10. Death or Glory
9. Should I Stay Or Should I Go
8. Complete Control
7. Guns of Brixton
6. (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais
5. Rock The Casbah
4. Clampton
3. Straight to Hell

I wouldn't know how to pare it down to 12 songs, that's for sure. I agree the absence of White Riot is pretty glaring. I honestly don't think that there are any bad Clash songs, period. I've never heard one! Back that up with the B.A.D., Mescelaros, and Havana 3 AM material and the catalog is proven bullet proof. Even Mick and Paul's involvement with Gorillaz is impressive.

What no Police and Thieves? That song always reminded me of something from The Specials, but then that opens the doors to my long time obsession with early punk/ska music…

No problem with the list really. I have liked all of their songs so hurray to Rolling Stone for putting out a list that doesn't suck.

Oh no......not another list........

I would, of course, have a significantly different roster of songs. And where's "I'm so bored with the USA"? "White Riot"? Don't get me started. More early stuff and get rid of the Combat Rock era radio success. \m/

The Clash are one of my favourite bands for sure. First 3 albums are magic & although I was a bit disappointed with Sandanista on release, there is lots of great stuff on that album (Somebody Got Murdered, Police on My back, Washington Bullets etc).

Hardly anyone would fully agree with any printed list - e.g. for me, "London Calling" probably wouldn't be in my Top 20 (though I do love it). I love some songs some mentioned by others such as "Police & Thieves", "White Riot", "I'm So Bored (with the USA)", and most of the RS list but I'd also add "Janie Jones","Safe European Home", "Guns on the Roof", "All The Young Punks", "The Card Cheat", "Spanish Bombs", "Groovy Times", "Gates of the West", "Bankrobber", "I Fought The Law" etc, etc.

Just a wonderful body of work.
