What 1 11/16 solid rosewood dreads are there? Apart from the 150 and the Orpheum both being 1 3/4, that only leaves me a D-55...that I'd love to afford one day...but are also rare-ish here in the UK.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you for this list!Guild D50, DV6, DV52, DV62, DV72
Ha! Yes, I've got a Yamaha LL6XA (albeit laminate, but you wouldn't know), and have owned a LS16 too.Yamaha A3/5R i believe
My 1995 DV-62 has a 1 11/16 nut. And it's for sale. I've decided not to sell my DV-62.What 1 11/16 solid rosewood dreads are there? Apart from the 150 and the Orpheum both being 1 3/4, that only leaves me a D-55...that I'd love to afford one day...but are also rare-ish here in the UK.

The DV72’s are often 1-3/4. A DV52 or DV62 is most often 1-11/16.Guild D50, DV6, DV52, DV62, DV72
Thanks for the correction. I guess I just assumed they’d be 1 11/16”.The DV72’s are often 1-3/4. A DV52 or DV62 is most often 1-11/16.
makes sense!Ha! Yes, I've got a Yamaha LL6XA (albeit laminate, but you wouldn't know), and have owned a LS16 too.
These, and my Taylors and Larrivee are super playable, but my heart lies with Guild
Nice guitar! Perhaps same-ish era as my '94 GV-70? I'm in the UK, so you're a bit far away I'm guessing!My 1995 DV-62 has a 1 11/16 nut. And it's for sale.
Ah I see! For me, it depends, I know that usually a 1 3/4” Martin for example, will always be too large, something to do with the hard edge feel of the neck "shoulder" in my hand, you know? But I have a Yamaha that's 44mm (ie 1.732"), that's in-between, and a smoother rounder neck.I think most Guild dreads are 1-11/16, but there can be a little variation as the necks were often hand finished. It is always wise to ask the seller to measure if it matters to you. Often the seller will just pull specs off the ol’ interweb without measuring.
I have just the opposite issue in that I need 1-3/4, so always ask in the hope of finding that unicorn made wider than the spec.
That GV-70 has to be a very rare bird in the UK. I have one of the presumably 59 made and won’t give it up. Luckily for me the neck had just enough room so that luthier Tom Jacobs was able to cut a slightly wider nut at 1-23/32 when he did the neck reset.Nice guitar! Perhaps same-ish era as my '94 GV-70? I'm in the UK, so you're a bit far away I'm guessing!
I'd love a DV-6! But I've literally never seen one yet here in the UK, but I live in hope! The Tacoma-built DV-6 is a solid rosewood dreadnought, lightweight and very resonant... You may have to wait a while to see one, but it would be worth a test drive.
Well yes, I'd love a D-55. I suppose, instead of the 7 medium/low priced acoustics I have spread money across, I should've got one...or yes, an Atkin D-37... Maybe when my pensions come inI hate to play the throw money at the situation, but the Santa Cruz D PW 1 11/16 neck is the best I've found. Making the investment could save you in the long run, or get the D 55 which will do the trick. I imagine the used market will not be viable in the UK. Atkins?
Oh yes, the GV-70 is super rare here. I bought it from Denmark street in '94, and didn't really know what it was, I just thought "oh, this is nice", and I had my first well-paid job. But now I know! That GV-70 has to be a very rare bird in the UK. I have one of the presumably 59 made and won’t give it up.
Good decision. I sold my DV52 and have regretted it every day since. My 1995 DV-62 has a 1 11/16 nut. And it's for sale. I've decided not to sell my DV-62.
I see you have a '53 X-375. How do you like it?Good decision. I sold my DV52 and have regretted it every day since.
Love it, though more as a possession than a player, I must admit. I am much more an acoustic guy than electric. It's not for sale, but ridiculous offers are always considered!I see you have a '53 X-375. How do you like it?
