I'll never get scales down. To some folks it just comes naturally, but not me dang it... Anyway, this is a pretty good tutorial for you more talented folks:

Learn a C scale, move it up 2 frets & it's a D scale, actually any scale, depends only on finding a root.

Theory, that's what this is. I've been struggling, trying to make noodling melodic. the video reinforces what I suspected; lacking a good ear, playing between the right numbers could help. I'm getting better at playing between the roots, but seems numbers like 3rds, 5ths & triplets are equally important.
