Thought I’d share recent use of my ‘97 Starfire IV for a live video shoot. I used it for just a few songs on the record but it proved to be the more versatile between the songs selections and ended up in most of the videos.

To show its range of use, I’ve shared the two most different songs from the session.

I think I recall the signal chain is a Benson boost, Farm Tombstone Tremolo, Benson Vinny Reverb.

Thanks LTGers

Thanks! Usually consider this a great blues n jazz guitar but proved to be great for more than that

I find these Westerly Guilds a great blend of practicality and quality. HB1s would be fun, but I’ll take the trade off of SD1s + some more contemporary stability

Nice job and tunes! That Starfire suits your type of music well.

How are things in the Cowtown music scene? It used to be pretty great in the 80s and 90s.

Thanks @Sal my buddy’s studio is equipped well. Love that sennheiser 441. Always associate it with Stevie Nicks.

You are too kind @Cougar !

@jp it’s pretty robust. I think it benefits from proximity to Nashville, in that it’s usually the first stop for bands touring out of there. There are so many venues. I’ve sadly since relocated from there, but after 8 yrs in the scene I’d say the average citizen is more aware of the “working” music industry than the vast majority of Americans.

Appreciate the listens and kind words folks. I’m gonna keep gigging that Starfire.

I have a black '97 Westerly Starfire IV and also like the SD1s. Fine guitars.

Glad to hear it! Because Ohio is the crossroads between East and Midwest, it's always been a great stop for touring bands. The university also helps the scene stay rich, dynamic, diverse, and interesting, and clubs seemed to be accepting of all kinds of music.

Back in the day, Columbus was thriving with a lot of indie, post punk, and roots rock bands, and there were a lot of connections with the Chicago music scene. I miss it a lot, and a lot of my friends are still going at it.

Keep rocking that awesome Starfire!

In the videos it's also visible how thin the bodies of those SF IV were during that time! Well my "body" (belly) was also slim in the 90's

Yes! As the 1997 catalog shows:

Thanks again! Yeah the stop tail is practical but it does make me quite curious about the harp tailpiece

only thing i notice is there's more of a jangle especially with open chords. I rest my palm on the strings but it still vibrates quite a bit. Some people hate it :) Ive seen on youtube a guy put a stop bar on his gibson 335 cause he didn't like that banjo sound?? :)
