Sigh - bought another X79

I don't need another X79. I do miss the one I had, though.

I don't know if this one is a refin, but it sure is pretty.

And the price was right. So I bought it.



I mean, it's got the right switch tip. What else can you ask for?

Huge part of that sound is the amp (and, probably, pedals) he’s using and the settings on both guitar and amp. I get beautiful cleans and tasteful (non-doom-metal) overdrive from the XR-7s in my S-275 when I pair it with my amps.

I'm sure that when I bought my S-300 the shop also had a X-79, which I did consider buying, but there was just something special about that S-300!

Clearly, the solution is to have multiple if each.

Update that I got the guitar today and it's in great shape aside from the broken TRC. The mini-toggle is indeed a coil split. The fretboard I believe is ebony like on my others, but it's the brownest ebony I've seen on an '80s Guild. Usually they're very black, though I don't know how much of that is due to dye. This fretboard does need some bore oil and some love, but it plays great.

As for the finish, I am tempted to say that it's original except for a couple of things. First, the logo is there, but comparing it to my old blue one that I did the review on, it's not quite right:



Here's the one from my review. The size and the texture (visually) is different. The logo is under the clear coat.

Secondly, the serial number along with any part of Made in USA, is completely unreadable:

I've not pulled the pickups or the pick guard, but under the TRC is clearly blue and there's blue in the pickup cavities. If this is a refin whoever did it was a pro.

Oh - and the neck is very thin - 0.79" at the first fret. The one in my review was 0.84"
