Thanks for posting that second pic with the serial number. I was wracking my brain to think up where the devil they'd put a serial number on that shape of headstock!! (y)(y)

Hi GAD, Congrats on another X-79. I looked into my old price lists from 1987 and 1988 where they were listing Electric Blue as a standard color and Teal and Metallic Blue as custom colors. I wonder if the thinner neck and lack of the serial number on back of the headstock is due to sanding down for a refinishing job. Everything looks 100% stock on the body. I posted pics of my X-79s on the other X-79 thread started recently.

Have fun,

I consider these a "guilty pleasure" guitar. I'm not into pointy guitars (except for the Flying V), but I always liked the X-79. I'd buy one if it was the right price...in Black Sparkle.

The Guild black sparkle finish was very cool. Did they call it "holo-flake" or something like that? The silver sparkles shift color as the guitar changes angle to the light.

@GAD, I think had a long and wonderful post (LTG or GAD.net?) about the difference between holo-flake and mere sparkles. Most Guilds were the latter but not all.

Gary has some really great photos/videos of his holo-flake.... I forget what model. Bluesbird maybe?
Yes, the Bluesbird! He said it was difficult to show it's true nature in photos, but his video was great for demonstrating the finish depth and color shifting. Very unique!
