Hi folks, I just joined the forum.

I have 3 Guild guitars.

My newest is the A-150 Savoy. Playing this guitar is a bunch of fun.

I am snapping strings (1st and 3rd) at the tail piece though and I'm not sure why. I don't see anything on the tailpiece that looks out of order. I snapped the 1st string while tuning the original strings (flatwounds of an unknown maker). I switched to LaBella silver plated 700M and snapped the 1st and 3rd strings.

I have not owned an archtop before and I have plenty of guitars. I have broken more strings in the past few days than I have in years.

Any suggestions? -------- Thanks

Hey Razz, welcome to the forum! Have you taken the tailpiece off to inspect it? I'm wondering if there might be a sharp edge somewhere that might need attention. They changed the design on the tailpiece from the originals.

Welcome! I would agree there must be some sort of metal burr there to be snapping strings like that. Perhaps you can file it down yourself...

Might be worthwhile just to take a flat needle file and run it through the string slots in the tailpiece to flute the edges a little. Assuming it's consistent, where the string is breaking at least IDs where the problem lies.
