Jahn, I'd sure like to hear that Starfire / Harvard combination!

Still going Old's Cool

Dean Markley woody works nicely with My Kustom KAA65. Inputs for piezo, active, and mic. 12" Celestion. 8 digital effects settings plus effects loop. Took a long time to reach mutual admiration.

By the way, I am using a Henriksen Jazz Amp 112. I mentioned what I am about to get in my last post, but not what I currently use. it's great for jazz with my X-500 and GSR Starfire, and with the "Tweety" connected the GSR T-500 and CE-100 sound fantastic alone or with a Pod for effects.

When playing live I mostly use my Orange Rockerverb 50 head with a Orange 212 cab. The RV50 is great live because I can get enough gain out of it without breaking everyones ears. The clean channel and the FX loop are also handy. If I want to hear my favorite rock sound though, I plug into my Orange AD30 twin channel head (maybe a tubescreamer before it) and crank the gain and volume in channel 1. Switch to channel 2 for leads and watch out for earbleed :D

Back about a year ago (in post #18, pg2) I showed off my Marshall 4010 combo. I recently had a head cab made for it, and got a matching 2-12 cab. I also installed the Metro "zero-loss" effects loop

For acoustic work I'm using a Fishman Loudbox with my 72 Guild D40.

And here are the rest - Twin Reissue - Peavey Back Stage 30 - SCXD and extension cab.

Wow, Griehund--there really is something to those old dean markley woodys isnt there!
old reliable here is my year unknown but ive had for a lot of years my crate ca30
plenty of power & ive been known to run mckaile & a mike thru it . much clairity, & the reverb is just enough at 1/2 to 3/4.
what i dont care for but i deal with is the chorus is controled by the reverb. oh well.
i love this setup & it loves me. thats all that counts :)

These are what I play most (though almost never both at the same time!) :
IMG_3372.jpg

They're both tweed Bandmaster replicas with a Super Reverb output transformer, one by Headstrong, one built by a friend of mine. The thing sitting on top is a tube/spring reverb trem unit by Mergili out of Austin, TX.

I recently got a Quilter "aviator" solid state head (yes, I know! The blasphemy and horror!!). Not expensive, tiny and stupid light, 100 Watts, and pretty dang impressive for a Solid State amp. Here it is next to the headstrong amp, on top of a cabinet I had built that's the same dimensions as the bandmasters - and also 3X10.

Here's some clips I did with the Quilter head and my early '63 X175 :

I also have a Tweed Deluxe clone in a 2X10 Tweed Super cab, and a bandmaster reverb head that was converted into a blackface Super Reverb.

Walter, I also have a Bandmaster Reverb installed in a Super Reverb cab with 4x10's - are you running the stock (4 ohm) OT? I've been considering a Super Reverb or tweed Bassman OT (2 ohm) for mine.

I also put a repro SR faceplate on:

Wow Jeff, that's some picture!!! Be still my heart!!

Right now, I have a generic 4/8 ohm output transformer in it that's pretty much the size of a Super Reverb transformer, and the speakers are wired series/parallel for an 8 ohm load. Also have a repro Super Reverb faceplate on it, and a mojo repro cab.

I actually have an old Shumacher Super Reverb OT in my parts bin that I bought for it second hand, but I still haven't had that put in - I don't think I've used the amp in the last four years, the tweed Bandmasters are handier, and what I've been using most.
Totally worth it getting the speaker impedance right though, amp will sound better.

What could be an idea for yours, as I understand you're an at-home player most of the time, would be to get four 16ohm speakers for it, and keep the Bandmaster O.T. Amp will sound and perform better, but it won't be as terrifyingly loud as with a full-size SR O.T.
Four 16 ohm speakers in parallel would give you the correct 4 ohm load for the Bandmaster Reverb OT.

That's a good idea (4 16 ohm speakers). I've also considered just disconnecting 1 or 2 speakers to more closely match. It's loaded with Weber ceramic signature 10's now, it's expensive to re-speaker a 4x10 amp!

Yep, four speakers cost some money. But then those Weber sigs are not crazy expensive, and probably available in 16ohm. Warehouse speakers have some low-power, low efficiency (ideal for a SR) speakers too that are not too expensive, and I think they come in 16 ohm as well.

I had a few minutes today and disconnected two of the speakers so it's now a 4 ohm load to match the OT. Sounds good. No need to buy any other speakers (for now).

Since I finished the bassman I've been using it mostly. But it does sound awesome in stereo with the champ.

I got into Valco-made amps in a big way, starting maybe 4 years ago or so. I've also morphed from repairing my amps into building amps from scratch and this has become a really enjoyable additional hobby for me. Most of the amps I've built myself (and others) recently are very Supro-like. My two favorites are modeled after the Supro Coronado (1690T) and the Supro 1688TN.

I've wanted to build a Supro with the 6973's, just because I've never heard one. The last amp I played through was my GA1-RT, for it's low volume crankability. Before that, it was a mid-sixties Thunderbird 1x12 combo.
