Hey folks, first time poster here that recently caught the Starfire bug and joined the forum. For budget, and ease of access, thinking a more recent version is best for now.

Currently have a Gretsch Jet with a TVJ Classic in the bridge and a T-Armond in the neck. I dig it but have been smitten with some SFV clips online. I want brighter and jangly. Do the SFV HB1 pups get me some of that?

Main amp is a Winfield 18/30. Think Marshall front end 4 x el84 for output. It's like a Plexi Vox. (I call it a 'Ploxi.) I also use a little Vox Pathfinder or a Strymon Iridium at home.

Influenced by Colin Cripps, Mike Campbell, The Edge, Yada Yada.

Thanks in advance for any insight. Much appreciated!

P.S. Been digging through the threads but only 7 pages in...LOL!

Welcome to LTG! Yes, the Newark Street SF-V will definitely give you a bright, chimey and jangly sound, especially with the British-voice amp. I had one and really liked it. Now I have a SF-IV instead (same guitar and sound, but no Bigsby). The neck is very comfortable, too, and I found it very easy to play. Good luck with your hunt and if you get one please let us know.

Marshall pretty much did their own "Ploxi", the 1974, which they introduced in 1965. Only 18W though, with a pair of EL84's in the output stage.
That Winfield looks like a nice amp

Thanks sir! Ya, the 18/30 designation refers to a toggle that Winnie has on the amp, allowing the user to switch from 18w to 30w. I usually run it in 18w mode. The 30w mode obviously allows for a bit more cleans and a bigger bottom end - lots of punch for sure.

Still a noob here, and still looking at the SFV, but entertaining the idea of waiting it out for a good price...sigh.

Anyway, I noted a discussion from @GAD in a blog post where he discussed the mismatch of pups between the bridge and neck of the LB-1's on a SF III. I think the pups are the same on the SFV, is the issue present there as well?

Yes, any guitar with the LB-1 pickups will be mismatched. However, I have been able to set them up on every Newark Series guitar* to my satisfaction. It has never been an issue for me. YMMV.
