derailed. I just do not have time to do it right. And I was this close. Anyway, I am selling it off either altogether or for the parts. I have essentially everything but the bridge. It is a pre-67 Starfire VI. I will have to check the serial number to tell you more. I even have an original pre-67 Guild B-2 vibrato tailpiece, but in silver not gold. Got a matching pair of pre-67 humbuckers with rings. Got an original pickguard. New tuners that would have been correct that I bought from a forum member. Body has the repro knobs but an original lower bout master control know (that took a while to find). Starfire Truss rod. I would love to sell them all together, but am willing to break it up and piece this project out if no one wants it all. Please inquire.

I am not sure, but does the label say "Starfire VI ch" for Cherry finish? Hard to see, would mean the Cherry red finish was stripped at some point in time? Or what are the handwritten letters behind Starfire VI on the label? Just curious. Could be also a "bl" for blond, I just can't see it on the small picture.

It is a pretty good flame. The finish has been stripped by someone before me and I cannot tell if some of the finish on the back is original of not. I took the best picture I could of the serial number, which is Starfire VI S(tall letter?)h(small letter?) - 40132. Possibly SG or some other combination. I just cannot make it out. It does not look like Ch. What other letters would have been there? Any info would be appreciated. Here is a link to the same album with the new serial number picture. One of those should work.

In Hans book, it mentions "GS" could mean gold plated. Perhaps someone got it backwards and it is SG? Perhaps it means "Solid Gold", which would explain why the tailpiece was missing when I got it.

Solid Gold! No wonder somebody stole all the metal parts

That's hard to read, I agree. Yes, looking at how the "S" in Starfire was written I agree the first letter is a "S".
Looking in the 1966 catalog the Starfire VI was offered in "Cherry-red" and "Sunburst".
So the letters are a capital "S" and a small "b" ! Riddle solved. It was a Sunburst when it left the factory.

Here you see one that is just a few serial numbers earlier than your one, it is S/N 40092:
