I only came to know of Steve after his death. He seemed to keep popping up as the writer of songs I liked so I researched him. I've watched a lot of his youtubes. If you can miss somebody you never knew, I miss him. Sure wish I could have seen him live. RIP Steve and thank you.

I was lucky enough to see Steve perform dozens of times, sometimes sitting just a few feet away. Plus had him serve me beer at his bar on Lincoln Avenue a few times. Amazingly talented both as a writer, musician and entertainer. He had your attention from the second he took the stage and would proceed to make you laugh, make you cry and make you see the world around you in a different light. He's been gone nearly 30 years, but it will be a long time till he will be forgotten.

There is a wonderful Steve Goodman tribute video on youtube, with his widow, JP, Arlo, his agent etc. Don't have link, but it should be easy to find.
There is a great segment with Marty Stuart saying that you never wanted to follow Steve, it was like trying to follow Jerry Lee Lewis. And "Souvenirs"
is on my playlist, "Broken hearts and dirty windows....".

I'm a little late to this thread, but one of my favorite Steve Goodman songs is My Old Man. John Prine sings this song beautifully.
Being a baby boomer and my dad being in WW2, I've listened to this song over and over and play it all the time.
