I been watching some older films on Prime. 70s and 80s mostly. Came across The Hunter, McQueen’s last movie before he died.

Story is he knew something was wrong while shooting the movie. He got diagnosed with cancer a month after filming ended and died in November 1980. Film released in August of ‘80.

it’s a pretty entertaining film about a real life bounty hunter.

He was the king of cool, as they say.

I remember watching Bullitt on the big screen when I was in high school. Truly the best chase scene ever!

The chase scene from "The French Connection" was pretty great too, and gets bonus points from this lifelong New Yorker for the the backdrop.

I caught the end of this movie a couple weeks ago. I still have no idea what this movie is about, but I plan to watch when it comes around again on one of the local channels that plays old movies...

Bullitt chase scene:

walrus

We studied this chase scene shot by shot in a college film class I took. It really is a editing masterpiece. There are only a handful of shots in the hilly roads of SF once the real sound driving gets going, all shot from 4 angles, then edited to look like an extensive chase through those streets. (Just look for the green Beetle ;)) Only sad thing is, once you've dissected it, you can't unsee that, and it tends to ruin my enjoyment of it now. I pretty much know every frame of that chase.

It's great. That and Mad Max reinvented the car chase. The tricks they used - fast cuts, close-ups, loud noises, and more - are still staples today.
