I already copped to being wrong on the ebony fingerboard and bridge, LOL

And I should have been more specific, that the D-50 ceased to be built by Westerly in the early 90's, at least as far as I can find.
And if somebody can show us a pic of scalloped braces in a Tacoma D50 I will thank them gratefully for clarifying the historical record.
I'm just going by the 1990 catalog which states that the D-50 has scalloped bracing. I know I've also read that the Tacoma D-50's had scalloped bracing, but the catalogs don't support that...

That does it! Next time I go to Elderly I'm bringing my little telescoping inspection mirror, LOL. I'd certainly do that if I were buying an instrument.

At any rate, that Tacoma D-50 BS rang like a bell!

What about the necks, were all guitars mentioned in this post-one-piece necks?

OK I can understand that, (and sincerely, thanks for staying calm, I know I'm seeming like a nit-picker) but build details changed from factory to factory and even in Westerly over time.
Just because they had scalloped bracing in '90 doesn't mean it was a permanent build detail for the model.
Example:
Guilds used dovetail neck joints virtually universally up through New Hartford, but not so in Oxnard.
And the '90 D50 itself used a sitka top which we know isn't true of the Tacoma.
And did you see my post #12 with a link to the '08 Tacoma price list:
https://web.archive.org/web/2008091...celists/2008_summer_guild_MSRP_price_list.pdf

"Note DV-4's described with scalloped sitka bracing; D50 Bluegrass says only "red spruce top and bracing."
Granted we know everything's subject to error but considering scalloped bracing was considered an upgrade and a selling point, one's pretty sure they would have mentioned it, as they made sure to in the DV-4 because they were sitka and an exception to the standard adi bracing."

Point is, one of the benefits of using adi is that it's stronger by weight than sitka and they can make the braces thinner and lighter without having to resort to shaving/scalloping, although they might have.
I truly don't know.

(In the time period under discussion) YES: 'hog, and in the case of DV models in general, "Specially selected for lightness and strength".
In Guild Gallery #1 of late '97, at least.
:friendly_wink:
(Ok I had to go check on the Tacoma, good question, because while Mahogany is known for its dimensional stability and therefore 'hog one-piece necks still have good durability, the original (1963) D40 and D50 DID have 3-piece 'hog necks.)

Well, we all know we can leave it to Guild to build guitars with whatever they had on hand, especially at Westerly.

Looking okay for us all the way west in Pensacola....but I'm staying light on my feet for the near future!

I need to order a couple Elderly t-shirts. What a great guitar store!
