I have a mid 70's d-25 that hardly gets played anymore. Is it ok to let it hang on a hook in my guitar room or leave it in the hard shell case. I'm in Minn. so humid in the summer and more dry winter. Thank you. Mik

It doesn't matter much. In the case or out it will soon have the same humidity as the room it is in.
Put it in the case if you want to avoid accidental damage, and perhaps to buffer sudden swings in temperature or humidity.
Leave it out if it is in a safe place and you want to look at it, or maybe play it!

Choice #3 if you are not going to play it- sell it.

I'm leaning toward jg's Choice #3.
Mine hang so I can grab 'em whenever I want/need to and I use the cases for transport, only. I don't have them for storing, and they are "made to be played."
You have a designated "guitar room"........?

If you need someone to play that D25, I'm your guy! :D

Thanks for the fast replys. The band I'm in now play's mostly classic rock so I play alot just not to much acoustic anymore. I've had it since the early 80's and would never sell it. I'm wondering if it would be better to loosen the string tension slightly. Mik

If it is really going to hang a long time I would turn each tuner 1/2 turn loose. It leaves some tension on the top but not as much and it's pretty easy to tune it back up.
The truss rod is in there opposing the string tension. I occasionally worry that loosening the strings all the way, or removing them, will allow the truss rod to establish a back bow and make things worse than if I had never slacked the strings at all. Each day has enough to worry about so I don't worry about that much...

I'm a firm believer that if it's not being played, it belongs in the case. You can use a small in-case humidifier in the winter.

Definately in the case with a humidifier in winter that has to be as brutal as up there.

I'm definitely an in the case type of guy. With the dogs and kids, and my often clumsy self  my guitars just feel safer hiding in their cases when they aren't in my hands. Plus I just dig the smell that greets me when I open that case each time.
