My gosh, I just bought 4 sets..........for close to $80! Now I'll grant you D'Addario XS aren't the cheapest strings out there, but I ordered straight from D'Addario and they were the cheapest I could find, including shipping, which was free. I have actually paid more for strings before in buying Thomastik strings (they ARE high), but high quality strings are outrageously priced these days. I even got a price break for a 3 pack. I may have to go back to John Pearse.😊

I have two huge bags of used strings. I'd heard that D'Addario will give you credit for recycling them. I guess it's time to see if that's something they still do! Not that I need to buy any more strings. I have enough right now.

What I need to do is get off my lazy butt and restring some guitars!!

Jim, I find that Strings and Beyond has great sales on D'Addario, and even John Pearse from time to time. Free shipping over $35, too. No affiliation, other than being a satisfied customer.

I just ordered some strings from Sweetwater along with a few other items. Has anyone used D'Addario Flat Tops? I just ordered a set of .010s for $16.99and .012s for $13.49. First strings I've purchased from a dealer in more than a decade.

There is a silver lining though, these XS strings last forever.......almost.

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer, as was the String Hunter (@Westerly Wood ) :D

These guys had all the singles I needed when I was making custom gauge silk'n'steel and silk/bronze sets as well as the D'A pb .025 single that used to be the standard G-string in Guild's L350 lights set, in late Westerly.

Service was fast and accurate and I found prices to be very reasonable as well. So have no qualms about endorsing. ;)

I did check "Strings by Mail" Al. The site looks almost identical to "Just Strings", where I normally order mine. Given the similar pricing, I'd also considered one might get slightly "fresher" strings by ordering from the manufacturer. 🤷‍♂️

I just buy a 3 pack of Martin Monels and keep them on hand for my acoustics. I try to change them out every month otherwise they get very dead and thumpy since I don’t really break strings often at all for some reason unless they’re super old and decrepit. I once realized my D-35 had 6 month old strings on it so you can imagine the night and day difference when I restrung it.

Are you dissing the Pearse strings? I'm kidding. I keep a variety as per instrument, but there are less expensive HQ strings that can surprise you, especially if you have locked your ears into one tone for a long time. I switched off the semi-annual 'ear' change from D'Addario NB to Curt Mangan, and love the comparison. I shuffled through the pile and found a pack of 5 dollar Dunlop 80/20's, so I threw them on my F30. They sound as good as any, longevity notwithstanding.

Every once in a while, refresh your ears.

My best deals seem to come from Jason at Gimme Some Strings.

I’m pretty stocked up but always on the lookout for deals.
I just put some EJ22 nickel wounds on my D50 and they sound fantastic.

I am stuck on D'Addario EJ 16 for a long time.
I buy 10 packs and always have the right string for me.
Tried many others over the years, but these are my favs.
I mostly do a lot of fingerpicking and seldom use a pick.

I must be losing my hearing . Lol I don’t change my strings for months on end but I don’t play them hard either. One reason I like Monels and Elixer nano webs because they last me so long . Lol 😂

Wow, and I thought Elixirs were expensive. MF had three packs of Elixir pb lights on their stupid deal of the day last week and I stocked up. It appears that D'Addarios are pretty popular. I've just used Elixir pbs for years, with a few forays of string exploration, just to come back to Elixirs. Honestly, I just don't hear much difference between them. They all sound like guitar strings to me.

Often times our little main street music store that caters mostly to the school bands has the name brand strings cheaper than they are on all the popular online sources.

I'll never disrespect JP strings. Those who have been around this site for the 18 years I've been here know my deep love for them. I started experimenting with D'Addario simply because it seemed all the guitar manufacturers were shipping new guitars with D'Addario. And I've come to love the XS strings.

What I liked about the Monels is they don’t have that super high end zing that I always hated about fresh out of the box strings. I like the sound after a day or two when it still has that healthy punchy tone minus the peaky zing. Feels like with the Monels I skip all that entirely.

Whoever suggested DR sunbeams, thanks. Really good string. Got set of lights on F30R. I tried D’A XS mediums on BR and they are not good. 🤷‍♂️
