In case you haven't gotten enough new Surfliners this week, Sweetwater has these Surfliner Deluxe models available for pre-order:

Nice upgrades to the model. I imagine the three switches on the original model has confused some players. In any case, the new neck and G-lettered tailpiece provide further differentiation from a Stratocaster (for better or worse, that is). :)

Forgive my ignorance, but with a 5-position switch, there is one combination which must not be available (there are six combinations of pickups -- seven if you include "off"). So how does a 5 position switch work with 3 pups? And, is that a sacrifice that people like?

I tried a couple of Surfliners out in a music shop during their Boxing Day sales week. They look very cool from a distance. Up close, they have a .... I won't say cheap (it would be too nasty) ... but .... budget sort of look. The finish and bling is not what you would buy one for. Eyes closed, I found they played nicely and I loved the pickups. If one showed up used locally at a good price, I would be tempted.

Traditional 5-way strat wiring would be
neck
neck/middle
middle
middle/bridge
bridge

with 1 being the "bluze solo" setting, 2 and 4 being the 'nasal' settings, 3 being the "Jerry" setting, and 5 being the "Dick Dale" setting. The two combinations you can't get are neck/bridge and all three. Both of which are, non-essential, IMHO.

Thanks for the explanation, Rocky!

So most players don't want a combo of neck/mid/bridge (all three)?

Why aren't these deluxe models on the guildguitars.com website yet?
Looks like Sweetwater and the Spanish store were too early! Guild probably called them and they took the pages off again.
They probably are going to be released at NAMM April 13-15 only! Remember what Walter said?

Not really. Some people add a 'blender' knob as the third knob on a strat so you can get the combinations, making the other a master tone. I did that for a while, but I found it more bothersome than useful.
