I'm with you there Coaster. Like minds and all.

Some people have no sense of humor. My wife for instance. She got out of bed at 3:00 am this morning and read a book. When I woke up this morning, I asked here why she wasn't in bed when the alarm went off. She replied that I was rattling the walls snoring, and she couldn't sleep. (She works about 10 hours a day) I told her that I that was upset with her. When she asked why, I said that she'd been up a couple of hours, the least she could have done was have eggs Benedict ready for me at 5:30.

The bad news is she didn't find it very funny and has barely spoken to me since :x . The good news.................I've had plenty of time to spend with my Guilds today.

Coastie,

If you're working with topless elves, it ain't the reideer suit you should be getting into.

Question: What do you call three blonds around a Christmas tree?
Answer: Ho, ho, ho.

By the way Darryl,

I really like the footer quote from Zappa you have there. I smile every time I read it :) . Very profound!

Here's annudah one: "I can't play worth beans, but I sure make it sound good." -- Hound Dog Taylor

A couple of quotes from Pete Seeger's banjo book:

1) "Can I read music? Not enough to hurt my playing."

2) "There are no notes to a banjo. You just play it."

Ah, that Hound Dog !

I spent squillions importing his (vinyl) albums back in the dark days when such stuff wasn't available here.
Never did an el-cheapo guitar sound so damned good.

The fog-bound kids in Seattle thought they invented grunge with their cheap instruments, but the old blues guys were using those decades earlier.

By the way, how many New Zealand squillions to a Eurodollar?

I just looked this up on the net. The term "squillion" originated from the English term "quid." Back before there was currency in New Zealand and the economy ran on barter, the New Zealand fishermen adapted "quid" to "squillion" to mean a million squid. Of course, it took a lot of energetic fishermen to catch that many squid, and the only place you could find such hard workers was in the land of new zeal.

All of this is on a website at Sam Houston Institute of Technology.

I swear this is true: I once taught at a place called BSU. Bemidji State University in Minnesota. In Swedish, "minne" means "mind" or "memory," and "sota" means "to darken with soot." BSU was the home of the BSU Beavers. I lived on Callahan Street, as in Dirty Harry Callahan.

What the heck does "Greymoutn" mean?

"Grey" is the name of one of our colonial governors.
We have a Grey River, which obviously has a "mouth" where it meets the sea. and Greymouth is situated at that point.

Grey also describes the way the weather can sometimes be - like today for example !!

My generation was just referred to recently as "Q-tips" -- the grey heads that you see popping out the tops of open sportscars....
