I have all the original parts, pick-ups, locking nut, sell sheets, promo literature, invoices etc. This had stayed local with just 2 excellent previous owners.
If the Luther is Zack.....he will know.

Hi Teeje-o,

Congrats on a new acquisition. That's a bit of a mystery. Perhaps it's a "one-off" made at the Guild factory.

The only serial number I've seen used on T200 and T-250 models started with HK. Tuners I've seen on examples were black Grover tuners. Although Guild was putting black Sperzel locking tuners on their Detonator models. Also, I've only seen black pickup covers on the neck pickups. Either an EMG active or a DiMarzio passive stacked humbucker under a black cover with the Guild name on it, like the red T-250 I have. Also, all the "cake-knife" headstocks I've seen are black.

But, there are "one-off" examples of Guild electrics out there. Best of luck in your search for information.

T-200s had gold Grovers as well.

That's an odd serial number prefix for this neck indeed. Looking forward seeing what Hans has to say. Maybe one of those where the factory stamped a wrong prefix.

according to the charts online, HJ is for the late 80's-early 90's X-160. but the run dies off in the 300's...and yours is 617 (and nothing like an X-160)

head scratcher for sure

I'll ask our Westerly local luthier the history and info. It was his guitar, he is a stickler for keeping the histories. Awesome guitar and sound. I like preserving the histories.

Don't think that guitar came out of the factory like that. Looks like it's put together with parts from different periods.

Sincerely,

And there you have it from the source! It might be cobbled together, but I like it! That neck plate is definitely from 1986, like my Pilot bass. Super cool!

after reading Hans' post, I went back and looked at the chart again. "HJ" was used on at least 3 different models during different time periods.

as posted above HJ has been used on late 80s/early 90s X-160 (set neck arch top)

it was also used on the 84-85 X-100 Bladerunner (set neck unique design)

however the neck on this subject T-250 appears to have originally been a neck from a 1990 GX, which looks like this (@cupric guitar):

IMG_4488.jpeg

it would make sense if there were unused GX necks (or at least one of them), when they went full send with the Songbird. or else a GX went to the chop shop. So as Hans says, likely a parts build.

also this neck is a bolt on, matching headstock, with serial number falling right into the chart for 1990 GX. So I do believe we have a match on the neck

I think it looks really nice. Great color scheme and very tastefully done.
