Has anyone ever been to a Taylor Roadshow event? Next Monday (9/22) they're coming to a music store in my area. Just wondering what to expect.

I caught one in 1997 in Madison WI. Steven King played. Held at a small guitar shop on State St. It was alright. King was playing thru an octave foot pedal, sounded weird but he is an excellent player.

They do them from time to time in shops in Germany. Actually well worth to go there, but it depends who from Taylor visits. Some Taylor employees are obviously better (or more fun) than others...There are a few videos on YouTube, here is one over an hour long:

Taylor are currently actively promoting their new T5z "electric (acoustic)" as well as their new 800 series acoustics. The Road Shows are designed to introduce players to the new instruments. I would encourage you to give the music store (Parkway - (518) 383-0300) a call and ask if they have any details regarding who will be in attendance and whatever other details they care to provide. They typically raffle off clothing, strings, and even a guitar or two.

(It looks like the store carries Guild and Cordoba, as well, so the trip could be worthwhile - lol)

Mario.... very funny. Great info, Christopher. I've seen a couple roll through town here. I'm sure they run the gamut, but Taylor makes some truly nice guitars. They don't have to be your favorite, but a LOT of people like them. Sounds worth checking out, amigo!! :encouragement:

I have been to several. Nicely done informative promotion. Get there early for a good seat. They usually have a very good player who compares and contrasts different wood and model combinations. They bring some special guitars along to play and purchase if you have the desire and the dealer usually has special discounts. Lots of swag handed out at the end. If you like Taylor go. If you don't like Taylor, go with an open mind and learn why this company has become one of the top 3 in such a short period of time.

Have been to several of these, the most recent a couple of weeks ago. This one had one guild employee and a second guy who was a hired gun slinger. The shows are informative, regardless of what brand you play. They demonstrate the differences that body size and shape have on the sound a guitar produces, as well as the differences made by different types of wood used in construction. It is definitely a sales pitch for Taylor, but still worth going to. They hand out lots of door prizes too, from strings to shirts to picks... Definitely worth going to if you have never been....

I do like the GC8. That would be a Taylor I would buy. Played one at GC once few years back. It was nearly perfect.

WW, my GC8 is just a phenomenal guitar!! Perfect size and wood and playability. Nice short scale with a slotted headstock. Sounds good tuned any way but you put it in a fun LOW tuning and it just GROWLS!! I played it at GC for almost 3 weeks before it came home with me. I don't think they make them any more, or it's been replaced with something else. :encouragement:

I don't really care about Taylor guitars one way or the other. I only play 12s, and Guild has met my needs. I do wonder, though, why Taylor feels it necessary or appropriate to punch control knob holes in it's premier guitar series' sides, when there are soundhole mounted controls that will serve just fine. I consider expensive guitars to be heirloom material, and defacing them with soon-to-be outmoded electronics controls is a shame.
