So I have been hankering to make a Christmas-themed Stratocaster. In my mind's eye I saw Sherwood green. My pocket book saw, hard to find and pretty expensive. Not to mention hard to find one I could mod or even find a body that was already sherwood green at the time.
I was going to buy a blank body and paint it until I found one of reverb listed as "metallic green". Really more blue than what I would consider a true sherwood green. However, like Lake Placid Blue and Fiesta red, there are various interpretations. This one was close enough and I found some vintage wrapping paper ( for the pickguard ) that had some overtones that matched.
Before I get into specs, let me just say that this is hands down the best strat I have ever owned. The feel of the jumbo frets, the tone of the pick ups, the weight. I just really enjoy this guitar. In all fairness, I bought all of the parts and had Dan McCarthy assemble for around $300 in labor.. All in I have about $680 into this guitar. I was going to do it myself, but really just did not have the time.
Here are the specs:
Neck: Howell Guitars ( Reverb seller ) - $100 C-shaped / Rosewood FB ( nice and dark ) / Jumbo Frets - This guys makes really affordable strat/tele necks that feel good
Body: Stratosphere Aftermarket ( Reverb Seller ) - $140 / Metallica Green ( and a little blue ) Solid Ash
Pickguard / Electronics: ( Reverb used ) - $75 / Fender Classic Player / MIM / SSS
Gold bridge: ( Reverb used ) - $40 / Fender MIM
Gold Hardware ( screws / strap knobs / back plate ): Had them at home already from another project
Tuners: ( Craigslist ) - $25 / Aftermarket, but work beautifully
