FWIW, there are several tutorials on Youtube for this tune. On another note, in the '70s I had that model Ovation, mainly because it had a decent pickup at a time when it was hard to amp a classical, used it for playing some classical pieces at a few weddings. Almost wish I had it today, can't remember what I got for it when I sold/traded it.

Ab-so-lutely... I itch for a decent classical every few years or so. I saw an ovation classical like that one in GC the other day. Sounded decent for having a plastic dome for a back.

The best part of the move Joe vs The Volcano is the entire movie. If you forced me to pick a part I’d say every scene with Meg Ryan followed by every seen with Tom Hanks.

Where's that thread about Movies Not Seen?

Mrs. Fro. announced that she wanted to play classical and a Mk IV was found and obtained. I'm not sure I get the give and take associated with a new guitar :)

The original was not just an acoustic guitar of course.

The wife likes the tune because of this:

The best part of the movie, if you watch through to the "luggage problem".

Love this tune, used to perform it in a version we took from--

And if it doesn't come out sounding like this, well you just tell her it's "your rendition". This is an easy one. 😊

Looks easy, sounds good.

Sign me up.

Guild made some excellent classicals, the Mark series, classically underpriced. The higher end models used very fine woods.

What a great movie.

GC has one of those Ovations, but a call to Texas told me why GC had is just as " good ". Pickup didn't work. ( Probably no 9v battery in the holder. ) But crack in the top from bridge to bottom, not in the center. They didn't even dust it before taking the picture and it is STILL really dusty, he said, and no case. Ah well. I wished them a nice day.

Post COVID guitar prices still surprise me. I'm sure these guitars would be half of what they show up for now.

Well, that's an awfully pretty Ovation, John, but I'm not sure it'd be very comfortable to play as a classical especially if you're thinking of playing in classical position... Anyway, you're right about prices these days. I wonder if they'll sag back down kind of like used car prices are presumably doing.

Mine had a rubber gripper thingie that made it possible to play in classical position, but, you're right, no where near as comfortable as a real classical.

Actually, Brad, I've never tried it, but it makes sense to me. In any case, I don't know if that was John's intent or not. I don't think the fellow from the vid was playing it that way, and I know that even when I play "Classical Gas" on my classicals I use the normal seated position (not classical). :)

When I'm seated, unless I'm singing, too, I gravitate to the classical position, even on steel strings. I guess almost 50 years of playing classical, for many of those years only classical music, has been indelibly imprinted in my muscle memory!

^ Yep!

I have had a conversation or two with a forum member about his Mark IV. I think I need to decide what style I really want a nylon strung guitar for and what a realistic budget should be.

'At's the original Brazil '66 version, indelibly imprinted on my 10-year-old brain by the folk's Curtis-Mathis console stereo. To me that tune is always about the piano...but if a classical's good enough for Ben, Jobim, and Byrd, who am I to argue? :)
