What are you guy’s thoughts on the guild f-250ce deluxe ?

It’s been over a year now without an acoustic and I’m kind of partial to the maple or rosewood verity of guitars.

My last few acoustics where as followed

84 takamine maple jumbo
96 Taylor 810
Seagull performer mini jumbo flame maple .

I currently have a Korean starfire v and really like the neck.

How does the neck compare to the starfire ?
Do they offer something similar with rosewood back in side that I’m missing?

Thanks in advance jared

There was just a new thread yesterday about that model from @Rusty69 :

The F-150CE would be solid rosewood but it has a flat back, not an arched back.

I’m thinking I’m gonna grab a vintage takamine this week and grab the guild jumbo with my income tax return.

That old Tak looks nice, but it's very close to needing a neck reset, if not there already.

I never noticed that what would your recommendation be is $650 usd
If the action needs to come down at the saddle, add another $500 or so to that number. Here's what a healthy saddle should look like, on a guitar that just had a neck reset.

Hi Jared,

I don't know what to advise you regarding an old Tak. Make sure you have a good return policy. It might be fine as it is, but I think this guitar has a set neck (as opposed to a bolt-on), so future work could be expensive. Sorry I'm not more helpful.

No that’s actually really good advice, there’s no return policy since it’s a private sale and would have to be shipped from one end of Canada to the other.

I think this is a pass and and understanding why it’s still there

Well I’m glad I posted 😂. Old guitars can be finicky

Could be an illusion, or bad photo angle, but it looks like there's about zero saddle showing above the bridge to me.
That Takamine is seriously "ill"... the saddle is completely gone and the strigs almost touch the soundhole! The strings basically lie on the wood of the bridge which is lifted upwards already.

There's Guilds that will need neck resets, too. That's why it's important to learn how to assess the neck angle on your own. Frank ford's website is an excellent resource for that information.

I know that I’m just saying I don’t want to pay $900 on a guitar just to need a neck reset

Indeed, but that's why educating yourself is so important, and the means to do so is readily available out there. Buying used guitars, especially acoustics, has always been a caveat emptor proposition, that's why it's important to go into it with as much knowledge as possible.
