I want to replace my truss rod nut. It's sufficiently worn that it will eventually become an operating problem. (The truss rod threads are fine.)

Can anybody tell me a supply source? (My location: Pittsburgh, PA)

Alternatively, if anybody knows the correct size and thread specs for the nut, perhaps I could just shop for a generic brass nut.

Thanks,

See the tab for truss rods at this link. I can't swear if all truss rod threads are the same; I would presume probably not, and probably dependent upon the guitar. Maybe a call to them can fix you up.

However, a faster approach might be for you to remove the old nut to determine its thread size. If you don't have a tap and die set to do this, take it to a reputable hardward store and they can size the thread for you, and you can pick up a new one (or 2, to have a spare one) while you are there.

Good luck.

Thanks, Dave, but I tried StewMac last week before posting the question here. Their answer: "Unfortunately, we are not able to cross-reference that information. Reliable information on which parts will fit a particular instrument just isn't readily available."

Take the nut off and go to the hardware store. Find the threads that it fits, and buy the corresponding nut. Right?

Am I missing something? Is there something really DIFFERENT about a truss rod nut? :?:

Mine looks like a regular nut.

Just wondering, but are you guys sure the nut is removable? I'm not positive, but I thought the dual-action rods we saw installed in New Hartford had attached nuts. Again, not sure.
