Went to restring the Taylor today and decided to use a pack of strings that have been in my string box for literally years. Cleartone EQ. The "feature" here is that each string is a different alloy, supposedly for tone balance:
I bought them hoping to make a different guitar (that I no longer own) sound acceptable, and after buying them I started feeling like it was a gimmick and never put them on. I used them today because I was tired of looking at them in my string box. The idea was to give them a quick chance and move on.
Surprised to find I'm actually kind of grooving on them. They sound quite nice, and they DO have a good tone balance. And they don't look as weird as I expected. Like all Everly strings I've tried, they're stiff, and I think that is due to the thick core wire (I miked the low E at .021 vs .018 for D'Addario). Hard to bend. But I have to admit they're onto something with the tone. Let's see how they break in.
