I just got this alert from a vendor I use a lot:

Due to the potential upcoming UPS strike we are unable to guarantee UPS delivery. UPS is currently a 'use at your own risk' service. We strongly recommend selecting an alternative shipping method when available.

Worth keeping an eye on the UPS strike if you've got any guitars shipping.

I think it’s the other way around and the other carriers sometimes use USPS for the last mile. I’ve been wrong before, though.
That's the way it is for me. Amazon uses UPS to ship to my local post office and USPS delivers to me. Not sure how that would work with a strike.

Small, rural town here, but UPS, FedEx, Amazon and USPS are all making deliveries with their own branded vehicles. I know there are places where USPS is contracted to deliver the last mile but I suspect any generalizations we make will not apply across the US.

Definitely not.

UPS was using USPS mail trucks (on Sundays) starting several years ago around here. I don't know if they're still doing that, and I don't know if the drivers were USPS personnel or UPS drivers.... In any case, totally agree with fro. It's not universal at all.

Yeah, that's what they do.

Honestly, I don't think they're going to go out on strike. There are far too many delivery companies now willing to pick up the slack, and UPS management is making a ton of money. I think it's more likely that they come to an agreement at the very last minute and it ends up being a whole lot of nothing burger.

I will not use UPS at all. In June, I ordered a new phone from Verizon. They sent it via UPS.

I got an email from UPS saying it would be delivered on Saturday, June 4th. I checked the tracking number that morning and the phone never arrived. The tracking said it would be delivered Monday, June 6. That day came and went with no delivery. At that point, UPS stopped updating the tracking info. It was not delivered on Tuesday, so I called UPS. They said the package had been lost, even though it was tracked on the truck three days earlier.

About an hour later, my phone would not work because it was not activated. I called Verizon and someone had activated the phone I ordered and never received. Verizon deactivated the new phone that I did not have and reactivated my old phone. They sent me another phone right away via FedEx and I had it on Thursday.

My guess is that someone at the local UPS depot scanned the phone as if they were going to put it on the truck, then put it somewhere else where they could get it later. UPS had no interest in trying to find what had happened.

I don't know if anyone anymore has any interest in finding what happened.

That is true in many areas. The investigative resources are limited and the cost of the investigation far exceeds the cost of the crime.

We could, for example, reduce or eliminate credit card fraud by deploying various technologies. But no one wants to pay for doing so and the card issuers would spend more paying for new tech then they spend resolving fraud claims.
