Hello, all. Although I rarely post on the LTG site, I do regularly read it, and I most regularly play my beloved D70 NT. Even though I have several nice acoustics, the D70 is by far my favorite, the one I gig with, and the one I pick on at home. Then why do you think I would do a stupid thing like leave it in the back of my black truck with black canopy for 8 hot, hot days while I was on vacation? I don't know, perhaps I'm brain dead. I practiced with my band until late, then had to hurry and pack when I got home, getting distracted and forgetting to bring in my guitar. The good news is... none the worse for wear. I can't believe it. Maybe a lighter guitar would've buckled or come unglued in the heat, but not this one. Or maybe God heard my prayers as I opened the latch....

Glad things worked out for the better...

My old D-35 has seen the interior of many hot cars... used to take it camping with me out in the desert. Since joining here, I have learned how badly I abused her... Too much heat/no humidity/setting her directly on the ground when the case was just a few feet away/setting her for years in front of a west facing picture window (her neck and back are pretty well bleached from the sun). What can I say... I was young and foolish. I didn't know any better.

Now, I am a bit overly paranoid... I run a 12 gal/day humidifier in my 10' x 10' music room, which is in the coolest part of our (un air-conditioned) house (in summer). I haven't flown with a guitar in years, and when traveling by car/motel, I bury whichever Guild is with me under whatever insulation (coats/blankets/etc) I have available and take it into the room each afternoon/night... to avoid the heat and theft.

The lesson learned here is simply this; It’s never too late to say “I’m sorry” to the Guild’s we love.

I have apologized to her many times over... bought her a new case, saddle, nut, bridge pins... change her strings regularly... She'd be the last guitar I would ever part with, and I hope she sings for years after I am gone!

I have been apologizing profusely. I'm even willing to go to counselling to learn how to not abuse my guitar, if that's what it takes.

This is the same guitar you bought from Tacoma's Craigslist a while back???

If I remember correctly she'd been treated a tad harshly before you rescued her.

Forgive your lucky self.

I have two guitars here in Ashcroft, temperature 39 degrees (that's real Celsius degrees, 102 Fahrenheit), humidity close to zero.

My guitars drop about a half-tone from the 27 (80) degrees in Vancouver. But it feels to me, with no knowledge at all, that it must take a while for wood to dry out when the humidity changes? Since my guitars spend most of their time in Vancouver, shouldn't I be safe to leave guitars out on stands here for a couple of weeks or more?

Is there any online data about this? I've bought a couple of guitars, one from North Dakota and one from Saskatchewan, which were clearly dried right out and had cracked as a result. How long does this actually take, even in a bone dry environment?

Hey Jeff. Yes, that's the one. I didn't know at the time I bought that guitar how nice it really was, and how much I would come to love it. If it would have been damaged I truly would have cried. Last year I ran into the guy I bought it from. I felt so guilty about lowballing him that I gave him a Jap Tele that was worth at least 500 bucks. I told him I needed to do it so I could play the D70 without guilt. Stupid? Maybe, but I felt better. Anyway, he called me a month after that and said someone had stolen the tele out of his car. Waste of a good tele for sure. But at least my karma felt better about only giving him 700 originally for the Guild.
Which reminds me, I still owe you a beer. Hope you are doing well!
