Can anyone be of assistance in providing Blue Book Value for 2005 F-412 (Blonde) with Fishman Matrix Natural 1 pick up system? Guitar was just purchased, but now that it has been "driven off the lot" guessing it would be considered 'used?' Thanks! :?:

frettedstrings, 'supposedly' new "old stock!" Payed $2000.00, but another local dealer (who I should have dealt with) quoted me $2500.00 for brand new 'special order' & said not to pay more than $1500.00 used. When I got guitar home, discovered two 'cracks' in lacquer finish: one small & one large (which I don't know how I missed). When I called & asked if I could return guitar, was told NO! even though it had only been a week. Had been in customer service/retail in this small city for 30 years & never treated a customer like this! I had bought local to support local business & for service. I'll never step a foot in there again! I am an old man who hasn't had an acoustic guitar in 20 years & feel like a complete fool. I should have been more aware of 'caveat emptor' & the 'sins of omission.' I tapped out my savings on this purchase, so I really don't know what to do. I'm sorry I can't post pictures as I don't know how to do it, yet. Also, sorry to burden you with all this ranting. Thanks for responding to my post.

Welcome to LTG, sorry your first post has to do with a problem.
Blue Book estimate for that guitar runs between $1350 to $1650. So on that basis, it seems that you might have overpaid. No one likes to be taken advantage of as it tends to color our outlook and enjoyment, at least initially, of what is a very nice guitar.

Other than the cosmetic finish issue, how do you like the guitar? I play an '80 F-412, and can't get over the sound...it's one of the nicest 12'vers I've owned. You mention that the guitar was NOS, New Old Stock, and would you be considered the first or original owner? If that's the case, your guitar would be covered under Guild's Lifetime Warranty...and the finish could be repaired under that warranty. Is the store an Authorized Guild Dealer?

It's obviously left a bad taste in your mouth. Good luck....

Urghhh... That's a shame, lptf. Man, very bad form not to take it back.

As far as overpayment is concerned, I believe you said this guitar was NOS, so I don't think you were too far off the mark. The fact, however, is that you now hold a Guild warrantee, and if your guitar is cracked Fender shouold be willing to fix it for you gratis, especially since you just bought it. I don't know if that's what you want.

Best wishes, and sorry this turned into a bad experience for you. I love my '06 F-512 to death.

My motto has always been "buy high, sell low". That way I can at least be consistent. Of the five Guild 12-strings I've owned, my maple jumbo remains my favorite. Wonderful guitar. Some finish cracks would probably be in your future, one way or the other. I'd say quit worrying about the deal you got, and just enjoy.

I like your Purchasing Strategy....at least you'll never have to admit to Buyer's Remorse.
After owning and playing a number of different 12'vers.....a Maple F412 answers all the questions of why you'd ever want to own one. Your fingers can't help themselves from playing
the intro to Mr Tambourine Man whenever I pull it from its' case.

I was looking at my 512 and it has a couple of obvious finish cracks about 4, in the top. They were there when I bought the guitar new, got a bit of a discount because of them, but that guitar had and has 'the sound'....31 years later, it still has the cracks and not much more, so now it one of the best condition 31 year old F512s out there.... :D Steffan

I absolutely LOVE my '06 F-412! Can't remember what I paid for it (bought it new), but whatever it was it was worth every penny.

If the cracks are just in the finish not in the wood then you might just consider playing it as is. If you call customer service they will ask where the cracks are and what it has been subjected to. If there is a qualified shop close the warranty might be covered there but service may request it be sent to the shop in Tennessee.

Hi lptf and welcome to LTG. One way or the other, I hope you get some satisfaction from either the dealer or Guild but mostly hope you get pleasure out of the guitar anyway ... Welcome!

Hi and welcome. Sorry you have remorse, but I hope you get some enjoyment from a fine guitar otherwise, or satisfaction one way or another, as said above. For what it is worth, I scoff at finish cracks on my 2002 D40CE:

Come to think of it, maybe I should make a warranty claim myself!

Great guitar, sorry about your misfortune. However, my understanding is that finish checking is not a warranty issue. If it was in fact brand new, the price was not out of line, you got a NOS one for $500 less than a brand new one. Yours was also made in Tacoma, not sure if there are any major differences between Tacoma built and New Hartford built. Was there a warranty card provided? If not, maybe it was pre-owned? Perhaps the store owner might consider refunding part of your money considering the finish cracks? Good luck.
