The first handful of Guild electrics are based off the Epiphone Zephyr.
Ah, I see what you mean. Hans wrote in his book: "In looks and size, the Stuart X-500 was quite close to the Epiphone "Zephyr De Luxe Regent" from the early fifties" and "The 3-pickup X-350/X-375" inherited the electronic features of Epiphone's "Zephyr Emperor Regent"..." Plus some of the original Guild workers in the early days were former Epiphone employees.

I just got my new Starfire IV with stop tailpiece, and can report that there are no serious volume discrepancies between the two pickups. Maybe they solved the problem.

Finally, someone with the stoptail. Really dying to know how it stacks up against the standard Starfire with its pickups and how it sounds, perhaps compared to your run of the mill ES-335.

Anyone know any possible replacement pickups outside of putting the LB-1 neck pickup in the bridge? Perhaps someone who owns one can try some mounting methods for a mini-humbucker (Lollar has some nice mounting options) or maybe a TV Jones Filtertron (DeArmond or English Mount). I did some plotting with pickup sizes based on the dimensions on the Guild website with a picture sized to scale, and mini-humbuckers and filtertrons are incredibly close to the LB-1 size, it will fit in the cavity for sure, the pickup ring and mounting is the issue.

I finally bit the bullet, so to speak, and ordered a pair of the new minibuckers. If the construction is the same as the originals, I should be able to unsolder the pup covers, remove the coils from the neck pickup and install it on the bridge baseplate, eliminating the polepiece spacing issue.

Then, I'll have a set of "low output" and a set of "high output" minibuckers and we'll go from there.
