My hip replacement surgery was to be done early this morning. On Sat. I came down with the onset of a cough/cold. We went to Alpena to stay at a Motel because of the early check in time and the fact I live quite a distance away. The milder cold turned into a raging, horrible cough/cold. They did a Covid test and that was negative. Bur, they didn't want to put me under if my breathing was compromised, They gave me an alternative of a shot in the spine instead that is apparently less risky in situations like that. That didn't sound good to me so surgery is now deferred until TBD.

I can't say I was looking forward to the surgery but I was looking forward to reducing significantly the ongoing horrible pain. Looks like I need to deal with it a bit longer.

Thanks for the many memos and best wishes I received.

Sorry to hear, Richard! Hope you can reschedule the surgery soon. I think my wife has that cold, and her ribs hurt from coughing so much.

Well, I think you probably made the best choice. While spinal anesthesia is common, you were already feeling crummy with whatever virus you have. If you had had the surgery, you would be dealing with the discomfort of recovery from surgery along with the misery of the cold. In situations like that, one misery seems to amplify the effect of the other.

Best to you and the exact same bad cough/cold/congestion raging in Tennessee. Actually, closed some neighboring counties schools through the New Year.
Hoping the pain gets tired of hurting you.

Sorry to hear that! Much of surgery preparation is gettng mentally prepared for the hassle, that sucks that you have to reschedule. Hope you feel better!

Best wishes for speedy recovery when you finally are able to get it done. I had both of mine done (4 years apart), and within days of both I was kicking myself for waiting so long. Just remember to do everything the PT and nurses tell you to do.

Richard, I'm sorry to hear about your hip replacement delay. It happened to my wife twice for her first knee rebuild. She was very frustrated the second time it happened. That cough/cold/congestion thing is going around everywhere. I had it two weeks ago and I still have a bit of an occasional sputtering throat clearing cough still but it's nothing like before.
I hope that it leaves you quickly so you can get your worn out parts replaced and go another 50 years. Ah, modern medicine! We're all very fortunate to have joint replacement available if we need it. I'm praying that you are the mend quickly from both.🙏
By the way I'm lovin' that New Hartford F20.

Richard,
Sorry to hear about your problems getting the hip fixed.
I know how painful the condition is, as I had my right hip replaced about five years ago.
The good news is, that after the surgery, when you regain conciousness in post-op., the pain will be gone, and you will be out of bed and pacing up and down the hospital corridors an hour later.
And your spelling will improve.
Best of luck getting a short date and for a quick and complete recovery.

Best wishes, I hope you are not too uncomfortable while you await the procedure. I know I don’t play guitar much when I’m down, just not in the mood. So I perch in my electric recliner with a blanket and catchup or either rewatch classic movies. It’s NOT boring being retired.

Good luck Richard! I had mine done in March of 2020, the second to last person in and out of the OR at St Vincent's in Worcester before they closed surgery down due to COVID...my roomate was the last operation! Didn't know that was going to happen at the time, just got "lucky."

They are right, after you are back in your room, a sweet young thing will arrive take you for a walk, and though you will feel "stiff," it will be fine. Eventually you will walk up and down the hallways, and then even stairs. Cannot ever say I ever had "pain," just sore to really sore. And so my suggestion will be, when they send you home with a bunch of drugs, take what they tell you to! Don't be a hero saying "I don't need that stuff," because you will, and if you don't do as prescribed for during the first week, you'll have to the second. Plus you will be miserable.

I was very fortunate to have been able to schedule my life to get the replacement done on my terms, before things got too bad. My sister had hers done a few weeks before me, after she proverbally had gone off the cliff and could barely walk. Wishing you all the best. They say four to six weeks and you are like new, well don't think "new," but you'll not need a walker or maybe even a cane, depends on how they do the replacement. Don't watch the operation on YouTube, it may scare you away! (I didn't but think all my friends did!).

Sounds brutal Richard. Hang in there and look after yourself. Hopefully you can get that surgery soon!
