But,....they're including FREE SHIPPING and FREE SET-UP. Now on a guitar that appears to have the crap, literally, beat out of it.....maybe that FREE SET-UP, the non-original tuners and that must-have pick-up, is why it's a bit pricey?

Naw.....that's just an overpriced beater guitar that some Guy thinks is worth whatever He can get for it because it was made in the '70s and in Rhode Island. Hey...someone just spent $2700 for '70s Maple F50 on Ebay....It's a trend.

Well, that '72 that GardMan linked looks just like mine (except mine's an archback). That stripey mahogany is just killer, ain't it! I wouldn't sell mine for less than that. Actually, I can't picture selling mine. It's the one guitar in my 'collection' I can't picture parting with.

Your archback's much rarer than that '72, but I still agreee with you. Feel the same about my '96. That '76 absolutely don't deserve $899.00 but I think those other two, if in perfect condition, are set at a reasonable "BIN". I'd guess a serious buyer might be able to do better.

I feel the same way about my beat-up old '72 D-35... as far as I am concerned, it's priceless.

Yet, I recognize that, were I sell it on eBay, I couldn't expect it to fetch much more than $500. There's a pretty big disconnect between sentimental worth, or even, worth based on my perception of its quality and tone, and actual value in the marketplace.

The trend in eBay prices for D-25s in VG-E condition over the last 4 years has been ~$500-$750. For a "perfect" "mint" D-25, perhaps another $100. The highest selling price (not listing price) I recall for a D-25 was described as a dead mint flat-backed D-25 that went for $1000 in the summer of '06 (I dropped out of the bidding somewhere around $800). I think $1500 is way out of line for a D-25, regardless of how great I think my '74 is (I paid $550). The most I have paid for any of my Guild dreads was <$1200, for my '92 D-55 (tho, if adjusted for inflation, I paid more "2010 $$$" for my D-35 back in Jan '73).

That's just my $0.02... YMMV.

Yeah, and to think I got my beauty (a late 73 or 1974, I guess) for the trade-in of an old Orlando folk guitar and the princely sum of $400 (on installments, even). I did know the shop owner, though not well, and he did me the inestimable favor of talking me out of a Gibson B25 I was a bit enamored of in favor of the Guild. I can never thank him enough. Those were the (so long ago) days. I remember bringing it home and my (now ex) wife just said, "It's red!" I never could stand her, after that. Ended up replacing her with a much more musical female. Vastly superior. Anyway, my D25 is not for sale.

A friend of mine bought one of these from the original owner (a former student of mine) -- same vintage -- sat under the bed for the past twenty-five years -- dead mint, for 600.00.

Yes, but the prices on this '77 and this '72 are even more unrealistic.

I was watching that 1972, as it would be a birth year purchase and my first mahogany Guild, but the price did seem a bit out of line.
