I have an opportunity to get a Westerly build FJ30. price is 1100. It plays ok, but action is high and there is a slight bulge/belly buldge behind the bridge.

the saddle has some room to adjust and I estimate about 2 to 3 thread showing above the top of the truss rod nut.

It still plays and sounds good and will be trading for the majority of the price. Any opinions on the value of this blonde fj30 from 1989? thank you!

Well, if it needs a neck reset, 1100 is a bit high, but you say it still plays fine and you can lower action a bit with saddle. And if you are not enthralled with the gear you are trading for most of the cost, I think this is a win-win.

If the bulge is slightly off to one side, check the braces with an inspection mirror. Also a good chance to make sure the bridge pin holes in the plate aren't too chewed up.

thanks all! yes, I'm trading a USA made ovation that I got part of a package deal. I've tried selling it on FB for months and no serious interest. they are offering me trade value of what I couldn't sell for cash. I basically have $0 in the ovation, so if they give me the 600 toward the 1100, i'm only in the Guild for 500.

its at a GC so, I should get 45d to evaluate and return if it turns into needing a neck reset.

im planning on putting in a LR Bags anthem pick up and playing this, so really wanting a robust guitar that I can do a set up on and get some miles out of it. This jumbo should sound fantatic with that LR Baggs.

I think I'll probably pull the trigger ... will have to evaluate the pin holes as jedzep suggested

If the action is high, keep in mind the formula for lowering action. The amount you want to lower the action at the 12th fret, you must take TWICE THAT AMOUNT off the bottom of the saddle. It adds up fairly quickly!! Take a 24" straight edge and do the neck angle test! See below....
