What can anyone tell me about this 12 string?

Crank,

I think that's a JF-55-12 (a.k.a. F-512). Not sure what the "2" means although depending on how it's on the label it could indicate that it's a factory second.

It's probably worth that if it's in perfect condition. Hard to tell from the photos.

As you know, these guitars sing like a chorus of angels. I love my 12-strings for sure, but the F-512 is the one that brought me back to 12s (and to Guild).

Don't know about the guitar, but I'd guess that Guild "JF255-NTE" might be an "escaped" in-house designation for a JF-55-12 with factory electronics.

Awesome 12 string guitars, period! :mrgreen:

$1500.00 is good price for a great 12-string and anything less would be just add up to being a great deal!

NT = Natural Top
E = Electric

Good luck Crank! Don't come home without it! :mrgreen: :D 8)

I'll buy that in-house numbering thing, barring some clear indication that makes us conclude it's a second. No doubt the "E" suffix is factory 'leccie.

That's a pretty good price. He's way off on the MSRP, though. With the latest price increase it's more like $4100. When the market stabilizes, street price will be about $33-3400.

I suspect street will be closer to $3K, Charlie, but we'll see.

Even from those crappy pictures it looks like a beauty Marc. Seems like a fair price, too. Go get her! 8)

Since it's the same guitar, in the same town, at the same price, I'm assuming this is the same seller I dealt with about 18 months ago.

I'd set up an appointment to drive from Boston to look at the guitar, at the restaurant where the seller worked, only to have him call me on my cell phone, en route, to tell me he'd broken a string while tuning the guitar in advance of my arrival, which he considered to be a message from the gods that he wasn't meant to show me the guitar that day!

I'd already driven an hour at that point, but that cut no ice with him. He was adamant that I couldn't see it that day. Another time -- maybe -- but not that day.

I had to turn around and drive home -- more that two hours wasted.

So be careful -- if it is the same guy, he's a bit of a nutjob!

Glenn,
Do you know for sure that it's the same guitar? Is the ad written with the same designation in the description....instead of calling it an F-512 or JF-55-12?

Having dealt with "Nutjobs", on occasion...afterall, this is Craigslist....and not Ebay, where every Seller is a Pillar of Their Community and Honest As The Day Is Long....maybe the Guy either thought He wasn't selling it for enough...or had a change of heart. Seller's Remorse? It's irritating to waste a few hours, but I'm sure that you've stumbled upon a diamond in the rough, for a great price....which balances out a time waster like that.

That's a reasonable price and appears to be a nice guitar at least from the photos. I'd make sure about the neck angle, and shove a .015 feeler gauge under that bridge to see if it's trying to escape gravity. Get a flashlight and a mirror up inside it to check for repairs.

Al,
You're right, I do believe that those Nutjobs on Ebay are Professional Nutjobs, which to qualify, if it's say like being a Professional Photographer, you have to derive at least sixty-percent of your total income to qualify.

The Nutjobs on CL are just Rank Amateurs by comparison.
