While I have been entrenched in the Martin camp for over 30 years, I recently became interested in Guild's maple body acoustics when I purchased a DCE3 (very non-Martin). They are unique. I also have an F-412 that I like very much. I had a JF-30 for a few months back in the 1990s, but I couldn't bond with it. I've turned my attention to these models. Maybe one will find its way to me some day.

None.
I bought a used Guild GAD jf-30 a few years ago because I wanted a maple jumbo guitar, and its price was reasonable.
It is a very nice instrument, and I'm very happy with it.
However, my Rosewood and Mahogany needs are incredibly well served by Martin and Gibson dreadnoughts, so there is no need to purchase more or swap out existing guitars. I have all I need.

Chazmo, the issue is that from the 12th fret on the B is 1/4 sharp based on the tuning equip. and it is a .014 B. I was surprised that the guitar was that accurate. I really appreciate your input. I don't play past the 6th fret. The next time I change strings I will try the .015-.017 for the B to see if changes the characteristics and yes it is only the B. All others are good to the 16th fret...as far as I checked.
I wrote a note and placed it in the case so I'll remember.
That's really weird, Walt. One question. Is it just the 12th fret or everything beyond it too?

That is very odd. My only thoughts are that a) using a different gauge string probably won't matter (but worth trying), and b) you probably need a different compensated saddle even though I see you already have one with typical B string compensation. Could also be a bad fret wire itself (maybe not seated fully).

Anyway, keep me posted. I'll bet it can be solved!

@Christopher Cozad any thoughts on this? Could it be anything else in your experience?

That is a common intonation issue. It affects the entire string, though the pitch variation may just be more noticeable higher up the fretboard. Regardless, it is solvable by increasing the scale length for the second string (such that the string crests the saddle farther away from its current position. There is a “good enough” approach which may be as simple as swapping out the saddle for one that has been “pre-compensated.” Then there is a “do it accurately” approach which entrusts the guitar to the hands of a capable shop or tech to custom intonate all six strings. That may involve re-cutting the saddle slot and using a wider saddle.

Excellent. Saddle compensation problem is what I thought. Thanks, Chris.

Thank You gents, I did notice when I did the string change that the breakover angle on the saddle was notched/broken down on a couple of strings and the B was one of them. Did Takoma(2007) use compensated saddles and were they bone? I will at some point soon talk to my local Luthier about looking at the guitar with replacing the saddle in mind. He did a really nice job on my DV-52 back in December with fret leveling and a few other items including installing a compensated saddle. I'll putting the information out here when there is a resolution.

I'd like a JS-II in really nice condition, but would have trouble shoe-horning it into the budget right now even if I could find one. I may just hunt down a nice, vintage-spec (but not vintage) Mustang, stuff a Bi-Sonic into it and call it "done", instead. Even if I used a Novak BS-DS, that path would likely wind up costing less than an "excellent-near mint" JS-II.

Yes and yes. The picture I was looking at (see link below) of your guitar earlier showed that you have one with B compensated. Is this the right guitar?

Yes, the 2007 that I just received in the past week here's the SN TK143009 pic (Wednesday May 23 , 2007 #9). A new saddle with the B comped farther away from the nut would solve the issue!? Thank you for your interest chazmo and ChristopherC.🙏

Maybe. That may not be possible without widening the slot, Walt. And, we're not 100% sure, but it does seem likely.

So as some know I own a guild starfire v and have wanted a guild acoustic for since 2010ish . My friend thinks im crazy but there’s just something about guilds that really intrigues me .

You have bands like def leppard, googoodolls, g&r all played one which just intensified my interest .

Going through videos and reviews I really started to enjoy the newer d-40s and I found one at a “ma and pa” store

So yeah I have my eye one a d40e (satin)

Hopefully tomorrow we can finish the deal and get this shipped to me lol!

Do what are you guys looking at and yes I want to see pictures and know why you like guild guitars.

Hope you like that d40! I came into possession of one a couple of weeks ago. My first Guild. It has exceeded all expectations. It's just a wonderful sounding guitar!

I'm not eyeing up any Guild, or any other brand for that matter. I get my bronze chip soon for four years of non-indulgence in guitar buying. ;)
Not me 😂 is there classes for that
