As a young fella growing up and just starting to play guitar, I thought Guilds were big fat jazzbox type guitars used in tv type orchestras, like on Lawrence Welk or the Tonight Show.
I think they would be the one electric that most guitarist associate with Guild, at least those of us of a certain age :)

Guild miss a heck of an opportunity by failing to capatalize on the use by of a custom M65 Freshman used by Keith Richard on Ed Sullivan when the Stones played Satisfaction. If that were widely known via an advertising push many a M65's would have been sold.

In 1963the Les Pauls and Strats were not popular. Gibson was pushing the SG and the largest selling Fender guitar was the Jaguar. I don't think the Freshman would have laster that long because of the increased volume bands would be playing at by 1967 but Guild would have been recognized as a cool brand to own.

I am very suprised as I look back today and see all the bands that used a Guild guitar. The Fogerty brothers often used Guilds as John Fogerty was occasionally seen with a late 1960's M75 along with his brothers Starfire 4.

I was just in a record store today and looked up to see a Duane Eddy record cover with Duane holding a Guild, not a Gretsch.

Don't know if there are many Cure fans around hear, but the lead guitarist plays a Guild in the video for Just like Heaven. It's a Jazzbox with a half circular style cutaway.

Guild definitely has some marketing issues. The current lineup of acoustics seems to be set up nicely with a clear idea on what the model #'s mean and what you will be getting.

Must be something, as there seems to be a lot '59s out there, and they're all good. 8)

Really, I wish mine were a '58, as that's what I thought it was according to the sales droid where I bought it. That was before I heard of the Guild dating chart, the internet, and this place. Too bad; '58 would have made it a birth year guitar. :(

Not being in the know about Guild electrics, but knowing more about them than the average guitarist, it seems like a Starfire model is the one I recognize and hear the most about.

Starfire? Did somebody say Starfire?
